Critics are always welcome. And I don't retain any enmity in my mind, rest assured.

@ Holmes.Sherlock
There is a bug. This doesn't work (md5 checksum like produced by md5sum, no capitals):

Posted Image If the logon password of your Windows box is iCecube & you enter Icecube, will it let you enter into the system? Take the challenge as "finding the code to enter into *something*" rather than merely "calculating the MD5 of a file". But, again, nice finding.

Why? Isn't it software dependent? It mathematically the same whichever case you use.

@pscEx

Can you please explain others how did you arrive at the image containing the text "MD5" from the challenge image? Otherwise, casual viewers may think that the word has been painted by you & thus will fail to have the true essence of challenge #2.

Shortly, I think that pictures are not necessary:

The phrase "Can you look through it?" in the first post gave me the hint that something is "unusual" in the picture.

I opened a .BMP copy in HxD and saw, that there was not only the 0x00FFFF color, but also the 0x01FFFF color which on the screen looks 99.9999 % identic.

I changed the 0x01FFFF to 0x0000FF (pure blue).

That's all.

Peter

BTW: Unfortunatelly I did not have had success in downloading the "original" picture, and therefore I was not able to retrieve the correct MD5.
Or, with the current knowledge, maybe only the UC / LC issue reported by Icecube, prohibited me to input the correct code.

I did it a different way - I opened it up in Paint and then selected a corner pixel and did a flood fill in using red.

I first tried this, too.

But this did not "empty" the middle of the "D"

I thought it might be a D and so did a flood fill in the middle of it to see what would happen and it worked. I then did an MD5 of the file but the answer was in lower case and so did not work when I pasted it in!
