What does "Gud Am" mean?

Ariom,

CDR/W to boot in DOS mode W/o emulation is not a good thing for some reasons, i strickly advice you booting with emulation.

Also yggdrasil tutorial show how to add .ima/.img (ghost.ima)
http://web.telia.com.../tutorial2.html

We have a link on boot-land at left-up , Recommended list
Posted Image

there you can find various .ima/.img
try windows 98 .img/.ima file, it will try to set your cd accesable from dos, so in dos with some commands you access cd.
if fails, there are other dos .img/.ima files around on that website and on other websites.
if all ready .ima/img fails you have to find proper dos drivers for your hardware, there are lots of info on bootdisk.com.

when using livexp, i dont think you need dos much. PE makes life easier.

good luck

@Lancelot I totally agree :)

@ariom

Quote ”I couldn't do the DOS” What DOS :(
Is your problem that you can’t create floppy image with right size to hold DOS files and ghost.exe in same Image. Please, give me more adequate information :(

Basically, it’s the same procedure to make LiveXP-ISO and Acronis-ISO to start from USB device as start from CD/DVD-unit. No differences in ISO them self. However if using USB device I recommend different approach to avoid "File for drive emulation must be in one contiguous disk area" read here
If using CD/DVD approach "File for drive emulation must be in one contiguous disk area" is not a problem. I repeat, it’s only (sometimes) a problem if using USB devices not a CD/DVD problem.

Anyway… there are several different ways to fix this.
As we are discussion grub and AeroStudio we stick to this two. AeroStudio is basically a kind of “Boot Manager”.

There are several ways to make LiveXP-ISO and/or Acronis-ISO to start from CD/DVD (or from USB device). You have already fixed the “USB-way” so leave this for a moment. But I am unsure what type of “LiveXP” we are dealing with (you must give more adequate information). Is it folder i386 approach or is it LiveXP-RAM approach? Please tell me it’s a huge difference how to start this two “LiveXP”-systems. At present moment I don’t now what type of LiveXP you are using. More information please :)

If ISO runs on USB you can use same ISO to any CD/DVD-burner to create bootable CD/DVD.

To make things easier, download my AeroStudio files from here
Expand downloaded zip-file (use “Extract here”). You now have a folder “to_ariom” (New zip-file) - it’s my gift to you.
Edit: New zip-file both for running AeroStudio-ISO from CD/DVD as from USB device

Open folder “to_ariom”(New zip-file). Inside you have folder “Aero Projects”, folder “Air Menus” and finally folder “images”Copy files from inside of folder “Aero Projects” to your own installed AeroStudio folder “Aero Projects”, do the same to folder “Air Menus” finally copy folder “images” to your AeroStudio folder and read here how I use structure in AeroStudio (it differs a little from “standard” procedure).

You can now start AeroStudio and open my made “Aero Project” “ariom.air” and ariom2.air and finally formatariom.air Please check them out, to see how they are designed (commands etcetera)
You can now learn by watching what commands I use when construction a CD/DVD system in AeroStudio.
Note: In this menu I use folder i386-approach to LiveXP. That means that I use ***.bin file to start LiveXP.
Bin-file is already in "images\images" (it's name is "livexp.bin) you can notice command in Air Menu "ariom" and in menu "ariom2".

because When I booted it in external USB CD drive and type a command (A:\> Dir) it display only the DOS contents in A:\ drive, not the whole contents of the CD, cuz its a floppy emulated.

I guess it's normal, the A:\ drive IS the (emulated) floppy. :)
You need a CD driver on it (like MSCDEX - deprecated - or SHSUCDX advised) to access the OTHER part of the CD (that will have another drive letter).

To Lancelot

(What does "Gud Am" mean?)...Good Morning..He..he :)

I would take that ADVICE. :(
For the mean time I'll stick to LiveXP in CDR/W & USB stick.
And THANKS for the link. it'a GREAT HELP to me.

To yggdrasil

(Quote ”I couldn't do the DOS” What DOS)
Is your problem that you can’t create floppy image with right size to
hold DOS files and ghost.exe in same Image

Yes DOS,, because I used the "Ghost.exe" not the "Ghost32.exe"
Beacuse "Ghost.exe" is an executable in DOS mode not in windows mode!! am I right?
This (ghost.exe) is what I used in CDR/W bootable in DOS mode, together with the "ADDS.exe & ATIS.exe".
These three exe's can not be executed in windows mode...am I right?
That is why I wonder how can I make this (ghost.exe, ADDS.exe, & ATIS.exe) file to be an
image file ".imz or .ima" so i can used this in your tutorial.

And You said...
"But I am unsure what type of “LiveXP” we are dealing with (you must give more adequate information). Is it folder i386 approach or is it LiveXP-RAM approach? Please tell me it’s a huge difference how to start this two “LiveXP”-systems. At present moment I don’t now what type of LiveXP you are using. More information please

My answer is YES. I am using the i386 approach folder.
I have the RAM approach that are working now, both in CDR/W and USB stick.
It booted smoothly almost 5 seconds only in my PC (P4, 2.66ghz proccesor with 1.5gig memory)
But I did not used it frequently because every time I booted from it (either in CD or USB), my computer will be in BSOD after I rebooted my machine to Hard Drive,
saying that I have a Hardware problem. So I got discourage the RAM approach.

By the way.. THANK you so much for the GIFT (this is my first gift in this year I think..) :(

To Shirin & yggdrasil...

THANKS to both of you for the GREAT HELP & SUPPORT.
I can only say...YOU both a B.O.B to me. and HAVE A MERRY YEARS. :)
"B.O.B" means.. Best of the Best

I said it again...YOU both gave me a hook & a beat, It's my job now to go fishing.

I'll study all your given link-site. so long GUYS..hope I didn't gave you an headache for this post of mine.

To Jaclaz..

Yes I did put an MSCDEX in config.sys.
and about this..SHSUCDX ..my gosh I don't know about this file. He...he.
Any suggestion on how to do it? If you don't mind.

THANKS for the REPLY.. Indeed!!!

@ariom

How to Create DOS floppy Image
Do it this way

You have two possibilities:
1. Download pre made floppy image with built in support for CD/DVD in “DOS-mode”
2. Create your own floppy image without support for CD/DVD in “DOS-mode”.

I think we only stick to method 1: Download pre made image from here

Create a folder ghost on C:
Open image WindowsME_No_Ramdrive.img (I do hope you already have a program for this) copy all files from inside of this image to folder ghost.

Start notepad and insert this lines text lines

del scandisk.exe
del scanreg.exe
del edit.com
del extract.exe
del format.com
del xcopy32.mod
del move.exe
del chkdsk.exe
del debug.exe
del deltree.exe
del ext.exe
del findramd.exe
del fixit.bat
del hibinv.exe
del label.exe
del mem.exe
del xcopy.exe
del xcopy32.exe
del xcopy32.mod
del fdisk.exe
del attrib.exe
del help.bat

Save text file as reduce.bat (note extension “bat” not txt)

Put reduce.bat in folder ghost. Double click on reduce.bat
batch file runs and doing its “things”. Delete reduce.bat file we don’t need it more.

Right click on autoexec.bat in folder ghost and choose to edit.
Insert these lines in the end of text (put in text after this one: MSCDEX.EXE /D:tomato /L:R:)

usbmouse.exe
ctmouse.exe
ghost.exe
shutdown /R

you now have this

@echo off

MSCDEX.EXE /D:tomato /L:R
usbmouse.exe
ctmouse.exe
ghost.exe
shutdown /R

We need some more files. Download USB driver here
Copy file Uhci.exe to folder ghost rename file Uhci.exe to usbmouse.exe
Congratulations you now have USB-mouse support.

Download PS/2 mouse driver from here
Right click to cutemouse21b4.zip and choose “Extract to cutemouse21b4.zip” Open folder cutemouse21b4 continue with open folder “bin” find and copy “ctmouse.exe” to folder ghost
Congratulations you now have support for mouse connected via PS/2.

Download shutdown dos-program from here
Choose “extract here” Open folder shut12 and copy Shutdown.com to folder ghost
Congratulations you now have support for the nice small dos program “shutdown”.

Copy your ghost.exe to folder ghost (dos-version of ghost.exe - you cannot use ghost32.exe because this is an 32-bit program) Note: name on ghost.exe must be ghost.exe (look in autoexec.bat).

Download my versatile floppy image script from here
Use it to create floppy image (help file included in script).
Note1 do not use option g-zip in script this first time.
Note2 Check "Create 2,88MB Image" we need that size to floppy image
Congratulations you now have a perfect ghost image to be used in whatever builds you like :)

MSCDEX will allow access to CD's burned with "iso-level 3" (i.e.ISO 9660)
MSCDEX will NOT allow access to CD's burned with "iso-level 4" (i.e.ISO 9660:1999) - i.e. the way PE builds CD are made.

SHSUCDX will give access to both.

@jaclas

Thanks for clarifying. It’s great if we together can make things better :)
Is it this file (replacement for MSCDEX). you mean, download here

Edit: @ariom

To clarifying some stuff in my replies.

Reason that I suggested using CD/DVD support has nothing to do with using AeroStudio (to start Aero-iso). Starting ghost is done using command in AeroStudio.

So what’s the reason for CD/DVD support? Well let’s say you like to have your ghost image on CD/DVD (I guess only DVD because it’s probably a big ghost-image) and use AeroStudio to start ghost and then you have your image on same DVD to “inject” to chosen harddisk (partition). No “high speed” in this (using DVD as ghost image repository) but works.

Anyway, it’s always a better (as jaclaz suggest) approach to have “full” support in case you do use some ISO, burned with "iso-level 4". “The best way is probably the right way” :(

YES You right yggdrasil. Thats really what I want. SPEED is not quite necessary for me.

I just read the "shsucdx.txt" file.
I know its usefulness, but it needs me some experiments to make it work in booting to external USB CDR/W drive. But I see it,,,it drives me crazy maybe, seeing those "Syntax" commands.

I like this part in txt file..

SHSUCDX /D:IDE-CD,F /D:?USB-CD,U /D:*SHSU-CDH,W /L:0

Assign drive F to the IDE-CD driver, or abort if it is not loaded. If
the USB-CD driver is loaded, assign it to drive U; else do nothing. If
the SHSU-CDH driver is loaded, assign it to drive W; else reserve space
for it, so it can be loaded later. SHSUCDX will return the number of
drives assigned (or 252 if aborted).

I know I can use it but I don't know how. It might get things complicated :) for me as of now.

I just try yggdrasil approach. Maybe I can do it..

@ariom

SHSUCDX /D:IDE-CD,F /D:?USB-CD,U /D:*SHSU-CDH,W /L:0

These are a kind of ”standard switches”
This /D:[same name as in config.sys file]

Open config.sys in folder ghost (use notepad) and you see this switch:
DEVICE=cd1.SYS /D:tomato
And in Autoexec.bat you have (guess what?) yes this switch:
MSCDEX.EXE /D:tomato /L:R (do you recognize “tomato”?). Test changing name to ariom in both autoexec.bat as in config.sys file and everything works anyway. It’s a kind of “name substitut”.

But to SHSUCDX there some more interesting switches. You are now in the typical “test and trial” position. Maybe not awesome but funny. It's like :) see if you get something on the "hook"
Test with this in autoexec.bat: SHSUCDX /D:tomato /D:?USB-CD
Or this: SHSUCDX /D:tomato /D:?USB-CD,U

I really don’t now what might work with your USB connected CD/DVD reader. As I pointed out, test and trial is the word :(

Edit: @ariom When you bought USB CD/DVD-reader/burner didn’t you get some software to it?

There should be some DOS-drivers delivered with the unit :(

Yes yggdrasil..

That's what I'm doing now, the "Trial & Error" (until I get more error!! Just Kidding) approach.

Edit: @ariom When you bought USB CD/DVD-reader/burner didn’t you get some software to it?There should be some DOS-drivers delivered with the unit

No DOS-driver included, only one cd-installer, the NERO7.
Anyway you gave me some idea about the new SHSUCDX. (New to me, I mean)
I figure out that this command (SHSUCDX /D:tomato /D:?USB-CD,U) will do.!!!! :)

THANKS again...

To Shirin   ;)

Thank YOU so much for your support..
I did it at last. (look my attachment) I used the "Bootable CD Wizard V1.50"
What a great program!!!

To yggdrasil

My simple "craving" was made possible at last..(Just look my attachment) PLZ...
Thanks for the support.
BTW. I also made a success about your "gift" you've given to me. What a great job of yours.
Sorry, I didn't have a snapshot for it because it won't run in "Sun xVM VB". I don't know why..
and I didn't bother to experiment it more. At least it runs when I boot my PC to my xternal USB CD/dvd drive.

I'm sorry I've responded for too long for this Post..
I'm so busy for making this simple project. And I made it at last...

THANKS for those who responded and give me any help for my simple problem (but so hard for me really)
I know it's just "a piece of cake" of you GUYS. It really gives me a BIG help.

THANNNNNNNNKS for the HELP again.
