Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, during a speech at the Seoul Digital Forum, stated that the company's upcoming Windows 8 operating system, which features an upgraded cloud computing service, will be a rebirth of the company's Windows operating system and more than 500 million users will have it by 2013.

My question is... is 500 million an over-estimation? I dont think so. In fact, I think people will rush to purchase Windows 8 just because of all the hype, only to be disappointed.

Well ...more than 500 million users does not mean ...more than 500 million purchasers... :money:
I think Windows, with a market share of 95% and increasing, do not need a rebirth, the dead OS are linux (1%) and Mac (4%), both declining.
By 2013 there will be more than 1500 million computers.

linux is FAR from dead. it runs way more stuff than you realize.
and mac will never be the majority unless they change their business model and allow you to on any hardware you choose.

please cite your source for this comment.

personally I think windows 8 will be a disaster, especially in the business market where the majority of computers actually are used.

Why should I install Win8?
The only reason could be to join the group of several million complainers.

Maybe that there are some people having my opinion about upgrades.

Usually the user does not need upgrades. They only bring costs (maybe even some more hardware memory is needed, for what?) and new issues (for the known issues the user has solutions).

I'm still working with XP x86 and x64. And it does not matter that (following Billy the Door) the support will end near future.

My XP runs well and needs no further support.

The "Buy the latest" IMO is a persuasion made by Billy the Door & Co.
Nowadays you are "third class" when you do not need have ???

So far it seems that Windows 8 Rebirth is similar to Transformers Rebirth. Aka a badly animation 3 episode "season" that ended up being the end of the 80s animated television show.
