I've been away for a while. Logged in and tried responding to a PM left for me in October, however the PM function does not appear to be working.

I noticed from a recent topic that there have been some forum maintenance issues and lots of spam. Does anyone if PM is a global issue, or maybe linked to individual accounts.

Sent you a test message and seemed to have been sent.

Hi, Misty. :)

There were (are) two different and separated issues:

1) *something* in the board software does not update the number of replies on any thread, so you have no way short of opening the thread to know if there have been new replies (this is not solved yet)

2) for *some reasons* we have been flooded by spammers/bots (likely an issue with captcha on registering, this seemingly has been fixedm at lest for the moment)

There is also - sometimes - an issue when posting, the screen seems to be stuck at "Saving" (but the post actually is sent), this latter is intermittent/depends on whether you are just replying or using the "Full Editor".

The PM's have been working fine for me during this period.

I also notticed an issue while sending PMs. Sometimes the submit button seemed to "freeze" and do nothing for a long while, no feedback.

It's only after I refresh the page that I learn the message has been sent.

Somehow it looks related to cookies or blocked content by my adblocker (ublock origin).

This seems to be fixed the moment I added the site to the whitelist...

Thanks all for the responses.

@TheHive.
I received your PM and have responded successfully. Using the Fast Reply failed initially - same as yesterday. Toggling the BBCode button allowed me to reply to you and send a PM successfully.

@was_jaclaz
Whatever happened to the Wonko moniker? Welcome back Jaclaz old friend. I was aware of the issue with replies to messages/topics/posts not being counted/registered properly as this has been going on for a while. The spam was a worry when I noticed it as I was worried that the forum was going the way of the dodo.

@everyone
Beginning to wonder if my browser may also be an issue as I'm using the stock edge browser and am experiencing refresh issues and being logged off when I attempt some forum functions.

Hello, there seems to be some corruption happening on the database.

The spam topic seems solved for the moment, but had to disable new registrations. Eventually is needed to move this forum to a new server.

The list of reboot.pro forum is not properly updated so that you will not notice new posts.

Dearest Nuno, are you planning to migrate the forum to another platform ? Or just update it and change the current hosting server ? In case of update choice I've seen that the cost is quite high, even by choosing a "cheaper" self-hosted Invision plan.

In any case I'm sure we might raise all the funds needed (for both the hosting and the Invision fees) to let this precious forum continue to live safe and sound for the next years. I'll be more than happy to participate with a contribution.

Cheers,

V.

I will join in, the more of us there are, the less we will pay.

The hosting costs are around 80 euros per month, albeit heavy it isn't really a big problem. The true problem is that I can't even move this server installation to somewhere else. I've tried in the past but both PHP and MySQL were no longer compatible.

I've tried for a long time to replicate the same conditions but kept failing. Ideally we could move this to a docker container with the appropriate PHP/MySQL versions and be able to easily migrate into new machines. Right now a more recent server is around 20 euros a month so the savings would be huge and we'd get most of the annoying errors on the visualizations and so sorted.

I'm not an expert on that topic, so wasn't able to make it happen. My apologies.

In regards to upgrade the forum, the most recent versions are crazy expensive. What worries is that if they don't get paid on time, the forum content is basically blocked where here we do have a backup of what happens.
