Convert portable App to One Executable File
=====================================

HI

In this tutor i am going to talk about an easy method to convert all the files of
an portable app in to an executable file.

So first i will make a very easy example to make portable App,then i will show how
to convert all needed files to an executable file.

I suppose that you are familier by making portable app,if not you can find all needed
informations in link below:

http://www.boot-land...?...amp;s=&f=73

================================================================================
=====

The softwares You will need are:
***********************************

7-zip (you can get from link below)

http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

7zip Silencer (get from link below)

http://www.mystercrowley.com

DriveImage XML (get from link below) as example to make portable version of it.

http://www.runtime.o...veimage-xml.htm
================================================================================
======

***************************************
Step_1 Creating portable DriveImage XML
***************************************

Install DriveImage XML,I suppose that you have instlled that in:

D:\Program Files\Runtime Software\DriveImage XML\

Private version of this programe is free and it does not make important changes
in you registry,so if you copy folder D:\Program Files\Runtime Software\DriveImage XML
(in this example) and save that some where,later you can put this folder in liveCd projects
or you can take that to other windows systems,and can use it without installing.

So at this time our easy portable app is ready and consists of 9 files in this example.

***********************************************
Step_2 Creating 7zip archive of DriveImage XML
***********************************************

Go inside "DriveImage XML" directory ,select all the files.
Right Click on one of selected files, ,select "7zip" then click on "Add to Archive..."
(see pic_01 from attachment).
and make 7zip archive (DriveImage XML.7z) and save it some where (for example in C:\).

************************************************************
Step_3 Creating Self-Extracting Executable (SFX) (.exe file)

************************************************************

Install 7zipSilencer and run it,then in opened window fill the assosiated parts as below:

_In "Select 7z file:: section ,type address of 7zip you have just made( c:\DriveImage XML.7z).

_In "Select SFX file:" section,select one of the types is there.this selection just detemines
the icon of the Executable file that we will made.in this example (see pic_02) i have selected
"7zip silencer",you can select any one you want from dropdown list.note that by selecting any
item,it's icon will be shown in right side of this section.

_In "Enter file name to launch:" section,you should type the exact name of the EXE file of
portable application,that in our example is: dixml.exe (inside...\DriveImage XML directory

_In "Select output file:" section,type the name for your project and also type the address that
you want the program to place made executable file there,for example type C:\My DriveImage

_Now click on start button,after a few seconds your executable file (My DriveImage.exe) will be
ready in C:\ ,this is a file that has all of our potable files inside itself.

you can use this file in any windows system wihout need to install.

===========================
Thats all

have nice times

Shirin,
do not take this as a critic to your good work :poke:, but you should consider to always link to an app HomePage, rather than (or additionally to) a Direct Download links.

The link to a sourceforge mirror, like:
hxxp://kent.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/sevenzip/7z463.exe
may last only a few days, as the structure may change and a new version of 7-zip may make the "463" invalid anyway (actually current version right now it's 465 :poke:).
7-zip has an home page:
http://www.7-zip.org/

a download page:
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

a sourceforge project page:
http://sourceforge.n...jects/sevenzip/

and a sourceforge download page:
http://sourceforge.n...?group_id=14481

Same applies to 7-zip silencer:
http://www.mystercrowley.com
http://www.mystercro...m/sw_7zs_en.php

And driveimage XML:
http://www.runtime.org/
http://www.runtime.o...veimage-xml.htm

This kind of tutorials are "targeted" to lesser experienced users, and they may not be able to follow them once the links go "poof". :poke:
