I have tried only on x86 host in ChrisR's Win7PE_SE_2011_07_22 project
using Windows 7 x86 Ultimate en-US RTM (SP0) source.

I use this project too. But with win7sp1 x86 pro volume lic source. I want to show you my vss-files:

When you search your PE-Systemdrive, do you have more or different one (the version difference is clear because of the sp1 I use)?

Do not know what can be the problem.
For me disk2vhd seems to work also when the used source is Windows 7 x86 Ultimate hu-HU Retail SP1 integrated (but this is not a 'volume lic' source).

Possibly useful for something (or maybe completely unlike it):

A modified version of the vshadow.exe program originally bundled with Microsoft SDK that implements the essential for taking advantage of Volume Shadow Copy Service, without unnecessary stuff. It should come in handy in Windows scripts.
