Hi Scott,

thanks for the detailed explanation. 've Done this:
1st Win7PE_SE -> Image Configuration -> with the old error
2nd regedit checked whether a record exists - is not.
3rd Followed your instructions with load - it is looking like your Image.
4th Again -- > Image Configuration -> back with the same old error.

regards Klaus

OK - Not sure what to do next...

Just to clarify.,..on 2nd step above, you manually loaded the hive and checked - or just used regedit? Without the load it should NOT be there to see...That is why the winbuilder engine does the load first, then the access.

But if it is working when you load, then access it, it is not a permission issue (or a file issue), so I don't know what could be going on...Maybe Peter (PSC) would have more ideas, and being in germany, better able to help you timezone wise and language wise, and as the developer working on the actual winbuilder.exe, also able to help debug this...

I would send him a PM so that when he gets back from his "holiday" he will see it, and you two can work it out. If I think of anything else to even try, I'll let you know.

Hi Scott,
perhaps I express myself a bit harder.
Original Win7PE_SE (D: \ Win7PE_SE - Source - E: \ Win7U) adapted path.

First try:
Image configuration - Wim Tools: Wim Auto with Get Info, and he finds everything runs without errors.
But with Build - 0-PreConfig --> (0-preconfig.script) RegHiveLoad - Failed to load registry hive: [WB-SOFT] From file: [E:\Win7U\sources\install_wim\5\Windows\system32\config\software]: Unknown error
Regedit HKEY_USERS --> no entry

Second try
I then "Load Hive" -> E: \ Win7U \ sources \ install wim \ 5 \ windows \ system32 \ config \ "software" - named FOO. Now it all looks like on your screen. (I would like to show you the screenshot but I dont no how to upload it ?)
Close regedit and Winbuilder.

Restart Winbuilder and regedit (the new entry is still there)
Get Wim Info --> (Images.script) RegHiveLoad - Failed to load registry hive: [WB-SOFT] From file: [E:\Win7U\sources\install_wim\5\Windows\system32\config\software]: Unknown error

I hope that you can understand my way.

regards Klaus

P.S.: "But if it is working when you load, then access it," what mean you with access it ??

What I meant was that if you "clicked" on the "foo" entry, that it opened (expanded) and you could see into that registry that you "mounted".

Image configuration is running well but

Was gone for the week end...

I tried it also in the safe modus but it won't work.

OK, this is a problem we need to understand...You should (if you are using a properly authorized account - i.e. part of Administrators) be able to mount another registry, and expand it, and "see" into it. IF we can't get that to work, then it will never work to make a PE, since this is how it adds to the basic registry.

So, we will need to work on WHY you can see the file, but not be abel to open REGEDIT, mount another registry, and then "see it" (modify it?)....

Now I have tried it with WimTools: "WimUtil" and "Always use WimMount Driver"
Image configuration is running well but

PreConfig:
Some Error messages with "WimUtil mount error (0,0,0)"
(0-preconfig.script) wimmount Driver - Files Not ALL found in Tools\X86

Yes, this is a similar kind of a problem...As I siad above, we need to understand why you can't do the "basics"...

Are you 100% certain you have a normal "administrator" level account? Maybe, try creating a special account, just for WinBuilder usage. Do you have UAC disabled or is it running at the normal settings?

Is there anything else you can think of that isn't just "default" on your environment?

If we can get past this, you should be able to proceed...

@Scott,
"be able to mount another registry, and expand it, and "see" into it." How can I do it with Winbuilder ?? To mount with "imagex / mount" is OK
"Are you 100% certain you have a normal "administrator" level account?" Yes

@Peter
I have an original MS DVD --> created an ISO -> and with UltraISO to "E: \ Winu" folder unpackt.

I uninstalled WAIK and only copies the necessary files including wimfltr.sys in the appropriate folder and at the moment everything is going wonderfully.
I have no idea just what was the real reason for the error.

Thank you again for the help.

I found the error:
For Vista and Windows 7, there is a "genuine" and any number of "restricted" administrators.
In Windows 7 and Vista, the Administrator account is disabled by default.
How can you fix it
Computer Management in the left pane, navigate through "Local Users and Groups" to "user".
Now is a necessary double-click Administrator. Remove the check next to "Account is Disabled" and click OK.
Now I just have to find a way to "restricted" Admin (Klaus) to make unlimited.

Mounting is with the "real" admin without problems.

Hmmm...While the account with the name "Administrator" may exist and/or be disabled, and I'm sure that there are ways to provide partial sets of "rights", I haven't ever had any issues with just creating an account and making it be "an "administrative" account. And you only get these two choices in the standard account boxes...

Are you running an "enterprise" version or is this a home version? Or did you somehow use a policy editor to change your privledges?

It must be a poltergeist or some other demon :) Which project are you trying? And really, using "mounts" isn't the best thing to try...

All I know is that I took a clean download of MultiPE, pointed to the source and ran OK. Same sort of thing for Win7PE_SE. Yes, I have the waik installed, but I'm not sure that makes a difference...Did it say which file is missing?

OK, Go to the Utils item (last one in the list) in the project and expand it.

Goto ExractWimFolders...Follow steps on this...i.e.. set source, then hit the button to execute it.

already discussed, but to avoid all problems with mount/unmount, the safest way is to use the Extract wim folders script in Util folder.

Write your win7 source in WB -> tab Source -> SourceDirectory and click on the Gooooo button it will do the rest and write the correct setting in images configuration.

Attached File  extracted wim folders.jpg   168.94KB   7 downloads

For RegHiveLoad, If the problem persists, try to Load the software hive manually in registry editor as stated previously by sbaeder.

Hello! :D

I think Klaus21 makes no mistakes, he has only Win7x86 Sp1 as a host system.

ImageX return: 2 means WIMGAPI failure
see:
http://technet.micro...447(WS.10).aspx

C: windows system32 wimgapi.dll on the Klaus21 computer has version 6.1.7600.17514.

Win7x86 SP1 requires the following Versions
ImageX6.1.exe 6.1.7600.17514
wimgapi6.1.dll 6.1.7600.17514
wimmount.inf
wimmount.sys 6.1.7600.17514
wimserv.exe 6.1.7600.17514

wimgapi6.1.dll, wimmount.sys and wimserv.exe Klaus21 gets from the host system.
ImageX6.1.exe (6.1.7600.17514) he would get from the Windows AIK for Windows 7 Service Pack 1.

Regards, :)

from where do you get the version 17514?
I installed the waik supplement iso (for win7 SP1) and there I have the version 16385
Nevertheless, the version 16385 does the job very well (for me, using win7 ultimate 32bit SP1 as source) and that version is also pointed to by ChrisR in his initial post to the win7pe_se project, see here:

Hi,

the version of wimgapi in Win 7 Waik, Sp1 or not is 6.1.7600.16385.
but in Windows 7 Sp1 Source we have a new version 6.1.7601.17514

Normally, there is no problem with wimgapi 6.1.7601.17514 and with Win7 x86 SP1 HostOS
But there is something that blocks on the Klaus21's PC :confused1:

From the last log, Klaus21 uses the extracted wim folders .
So mount/unmount is no longer used. Imagex or wimutil is only used in postConfig to capture the build ( Target Boot.wim)

But now a problem with RegHiveLoad Software, strange !!! The best to debug this, is to try to Load Software hive manually with regedit.

Also, I added in Images.script an additional control of the extracted wim folders of boot.wim and install.wim to check Software files.
to put in Projects\Win7PE_SE folders.

hoping you find the solution :)
Chris
