Grub4DOS for UEFI (G4E) - Installer - 210815
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want to have additional boot options available make use of Grub4EFI (G4E / Grub4DOS for UEFI) boot manager.
It is developed by a1ive and widely discussed here on reboot.pro.
a1ive's original thread
alacrans help topic

G4E offers a boot menu that's easy to customize. Examples are provided in the threads above.
Although it is in developement, main functions are useable right now: booting ISO / WIM / VHD.

Note:
You can use G4E only if you are willing and able to bypass "Secure Boot".

Tested on Windows 10 21H1 (UEFI-mode:GPT and MBR). Real workstation and VirtualBox machine.

To edit G4E menu there is Grubmenu-xTender available.

Take a look at this related topic where a short desciption of usage is given.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Archive content:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G4E_Menu.exe -> display Menu.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Files directory:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
%OSArch%\vmount.exe -> mandatory to mount UEFI $boot$-volume. (custom file)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G4E_Installer_Readme.txt
G4E_Installer.exe
G4E_Installer_x64.exe
BOOTIA32.EFI -> used for install (IA32) (custom file)
BOOTX64.EFI -> used for install (amd64) (custom file)
menu.lst -> used for install (custom file)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: 'Custom Files' can be updated to provide newest version. Extract archive!

Features:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G4E_Installer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Install mode (/I switch)
- mounts UEFI $boot$ volume via vMount.
- backs up "$boot$\EFI\Microsoft\boot\bootmgfw.efi"
to "$boot$\EFI\Microsoft\boot\bootmgfw_org.efi".
- if (IA32) -> copies BOOTIA32.EFI to "$boot$\EFI\Microsoft\boot\bootmgfw.efi".
- if (amd64) -> copies BOOTX64.EFI to "$boot$\EFI\Microsoft\boot\bootmgfw.efi".
Note: extracts internal file if not present.
- copies menu.lst to "$boot$\EFI\grub\menu.lst".
Note: extracts internal file if not present.
- unmounts UEFI $boot$ volume via vMount.

Edit mode (/E switch)
- mounts UEFI boot volume via vMount.
- opens "$boot$\EFI\grub\menu.lst" for editing.

Hi my friend.

I haven't downloaded and tested this tool yet, but if you don't mind I want to let you know the main and first developer of G4E is yaya, and in the main topic in the chinese forum yaya asked a1ive (wintoflash there) to create the topic in reboot.pro, of course our fellow a1ive is also involved in the development team and he has made a lot of very good contributions to this project too, also another guy (drivers expert) that I don't remember his user name right now, made all related to let G4E translate/relocate the SVBus driver code during loading to Ram to make it readable/understandable under UEFI environment, so I think you should refer to G4E development team and not to a single person.

It is good to see we all in reboot.pro are trying to make G4E more accessible for beginners, each one of us at is own way, and using his own skills, I'm sorry my contributions has being only limited to test the various versions and report my findings or issues here and on gitHub page, but I'm not a programer and I can't do more than that.

Is this tool to be used on a PC after you boot Win under UEFI environment?, or is it intended to run it from a WinPE?

@alacran

Hello my friend

(...) I think you should refer to G4E development team and not to a single person.

Thank you for pointing to this. Credits are corrected in previous posts.

You asked:

Is this tool to be used on a PC after you boot Win under UEFI environment?, or is it intended to run it from a WinPE?

You can use it from running Windows 10 in UEFI mode (GPT and MBR).

"Secure Boot" has to be disabled though.

If you use the G4E-Installer from Windows-PE a second reboot is required to make changes affect.

I noticed that the G4E-menu was skipped when Windows was not correctly shut down.

When this was the case then Windows was started immediately.

Best regards   T.

There is no need to apologize.

You are making an exemplary effort to collect information about Grub4EFI and make it accessible to the visitors of the forum.

Thank you very much for that.   T.
