I have here an annoying program, which is only available as a webinstall.
How do i capture the downloaded file(s) to create an offline installer?

Try looking for installation files just before install starts and also during install
Here:
%USERPROFILE%Local SettingsTemp*
%USERPROFILE%Local SettingsTemporary Internet Files*

Or maybe even here %ALLUSERSPROFILE%..

sometimes you have to be really quick
in order to copy the installation files

I was also eyeballin' this post to possibly try it out.

Yes, tryed that already. No chance. The files get deleted before the copy process is complete.

Cameo is not a tool to capture downloaded files, it's basicly a 'script maker'. It captures changes and packs them into an archive. No idea how dissimilar the computers can be, that it still works.

What about using permissions so the files can be written there but not deleted?
Or just trying an undelete utility, or a caching web proxy?
If you named the program, others might know of a direct link.

Or capture the downloaded files by capturing the downloaded files with Wireshark and extract them later out of the Wireshark dump.

I had the idea with the undelete utility too. Strangely all it found, were the deleted empty folders of where the downloaded programs used to be. :confused1:

I love the idea of the caching web proxy, but i havn't yet found any that fit the bill.
Simple, easy to use, freeware, best portable.
Any suggestions?

Wireshark i see as a last resort option. It's just too cumbersome.

Here is an example of a webinstall: http://dl.installiq....beforechristmas

This one was fortunately easier to get around. Just reading the download url from the installer and copying it into a browser for download. Else it behaves very similar to the one i'm batteling with.

PS: Watch out, what you click or you catch a whole load of crap!
