Peter, can you tell me steps on how to create live USB? When I tried to work with it, it does not go thru and hangs on splash screen.

Please note that my YES does not mean:
  • that I have tried it
  • that anyone who has tried it was actually ever successful

.... but I have a reliable source assuring me that someone has tried it, which answers your question nicely.

It would be great if you can give me steps on how to do it rather than giving yes or no type answer.

Sure. ;)

Maybe if you could explain with some more detail:
  • what hardware you are using
  • how you partitoned/formatted the USB stick
  • how you used UNETBOOTIN
  • what actual error problem you are having
it may help in understandng your problem.

At the moment:
we don't know anything of the above, and we know:

it does not work

it does not go thru

hangs on splash screen

In other words, you usually phone your doctor and tell him/her:

I have something, cannot say if it's acually burning or aching, I am not going to tell you where I feel it, what can it be?

:(

See if the "common sense advice" attached to Rules (the ones that you completely failed to read before posting three times same thing all over the board):
http://www.boot-land...?act=boardrules
better clears the point.

Unfortunately ;), I have no possible way to help you, if not cheering you up a bit with my "standard reply #32" :(:

4. After burning iso with unetbootin, when I tried to boot, I can see Mandriva splash screen and then blank DOS window appears. That's it.

How can I see what's going on in console?

Maybe it's a busybox? definitely it is not DOS.

Usually it prints some error to the screen. ;)

Check (booted from another system) if you have on the USB stick a file named menu.lst either in ROOT or in /boot/ or in /boot/grub/.

Post it's contents (if you can find it).

Not an update :(, a further step.

The list of files shows that the the thingy is Syslinux based (I thought it was GRUB based - my bad ;) ).

There is a syslinux.cfg in ROOT, dated 09/08/2009 which should be the one made by Unetbootin.

And there is a syslinux.cfg in /boot/cdrom/.

And there is a isolinux.cfg in /isolinux/.

And there is a gfxboot.cfg in /boot/syslinux/.

And there is a gfxboot.cfg in /isolinux/.

The last 4 above seem the original files (as they are dated 04/24/2009).

You need to post all of the files listed above (5 files). (just compress them together in an .zip archive)

Translation:
it is possible that when Unetbootin created the new syslinux.cfg, it created it with something wrong (like a wrong path or whatever). :(
Be warned that it is also possible that something else needs to be changed in the Mandriva. :(

However, by removing (temporarily) the gfxboot, one should be able to see the errors produced while booting.

P.S.: Supposedly Mandriva needs some "special" settings:

Ok, I am finally able to create Mandriva live pendrive but not with unetbootin. Mandriva provides a tool mandriva seed which is indeed a wonderful tool to create live pen drive. It is available for Windows and Unix both.

I am not sure if unetbootin is ever tested with Mandriva :) but it would be great if unetbootin works with Mandriva.

Most probably it won't happen until some user will have the perseverance in searching and finding the problem you completely missed. :)
