Well I am having a similar problem. I read on another forum that UNetbootin can be used with any .iso file and has been used with Windows XP before. So recently my Acer Aspire BSOD'd and now it won't boot past the Logo screen without flashing blue (no option to turn of Automatic Restart to read what it says). I got a copy of Windows XP from TPB that I used to repair another one of my laptops. I ran the extraction exactly as it said using the .iso file and it went perfectly fine, but when I boot up from the flash drive it just keeps counting down from 10. Any suggestions as to why this would happen?

Let us judge whether your problem with an XP .iso is similar to that of a guy wanting to boot a Linux distro.

Don't take it the wrong way , but you "read on another forum" WHICH one? WHERE?
that Unetbootin can be used with "any" .iso file (and this is definitely inaccurate)
and that it can be "used with Windows XP before" WHAT?

Let's do a step back.

What is your goal?

Repairing an existing XP install from a USB stick?

I can't remember exactly the website, but it was on an MSI Wind forum and they were talking about making Windows XP bootable via flash drive.

My goal is to repair Windows XP Home on my Acer Aspire netbook using a flash drive. And I can't afford a USB CDROM right now either so that is out of the question.

So, what you want is probably this:

The Repair option should work, though at least one user had problems with it.

Finally, if you post what your specific problem is, i.e. what error(s) you are getting, how your machine is setup, etc., etc. there may be further solutions/things (possibly easier) to try before doing any of the above.

i dunno, unetbootin is working well on my XP
just kidding.
But there are ways to create or better to say to install a win XP on a USB drive with the windows own tools, important is that you copy the i386 folder in the root of the xp(USB) afterwards, then he can reinstall needed software when you use it at another PC.

I could direct install it on via my PC on a USB drive as i have done it, but though, it doesnt work with my new notebook, dunno supose has to do with the bios ???

Ah when you create such a installation, switch off the HDD's in the PC where you do it, otherwise it might smash your bootloader, but there are ways to repair it again.

So know I need to search the forum if there is something how to install more and different Linux on USB via the SW.
