Found it*, and tried installing XP.
*It wasn't in the archive with the make PE stuff in it, there was a Pstart folder, but not with the USB_XP_Setup file.

First off, copying about 8000 files to the HDD took a while, after reboot during textbased setup some files (starting with ie4 if I remember correctly) could not be copied, during the GUI part I got a whole bunch of errors about not being able to access certain files. Did not read them all but some of them pointed to system files.
Eventually I cancelled the install.

Right now I'm choosing between getting a cd-/dvd-rom case with USB connector while putting an old dvd-rom player inside, or use the method I started with.
But then I would like to figure out a way to prevent the USB....something being added to the boot.ini and remove the duplicate XP entry. I think Swiss File Knife can do that.
And I think I'll have to disable WFP (temporarily) to get rid of the WFP error.

The errors indicate that dosnet.inf and txtsetup.sif in your source are NOT properly made.
How did you prepare your XP Setup source ?

The boot.ini file is easily editable so that you can remove the unwanted USB Repair Install option.
(Or Edit via My Computer > R-mouse properties > Advanced > Boot options)

Then how do you explain that if I use the exact same source while installing from dvd, there are no problems?
Same with USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd, no problems, not counting the boot.ini and WFP issues.

- integrated SP3 using the full/offline SP3 installer with integrate switch;
- then used RVMI to integrate the most recent post SP3 updatepack + IE8 and framework addon from RyanVM forum.
- integrated driverpacks with DriverPacks BASE.
That's it.

Anyway, I think I will stick to the USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd method I tried. With that I don't have to wait for PE to start and I also don't have to wait for the 8k of files being copied over before the install can even start.

To fix (if you can call it that) the boot.ini I've already found batchcode that deletes the identical entry. For the USB... entry I am gonna use Swiss File Knife to do a "search and replace", same with the 30second wait setting in the boot.ini.

Preparation of XP Setup Source as described is OK.
Strange that you get so many errors in XP Setup.

boot.ini is easily modified manually after setup has finished,
but may be you don't want it this way.

Anyway happy that good old USB_MUltiboot_10.cmd is OK for you.

So that I don't have to do it each time I use the USB stick to (re)install XP...

You can boot with PE in 30 sec if you use BOOT_IMG.exe to Install the PE Boot Image in grub4dos menu on Target HDD drive.
Loading from HDD is much faster then from USB-stick and in most cases available (only blank HDD requires booting from USB-stick).
Besides when you boot always from HDD, you don't need to make any change in the boot sequence
and your computer don't need to be bootable from USB

Instead of mounting an ISO you could have used XP Setup Source in folder on USB-stick.
In that case there is for USB_XP_Setup.exe no need to copy all files and you simply can indicate where the source is.
In that case USB_XP_Setup.exe only creates the XP Setup Bootfolder on HDD.

May be read and follow carefully the described procedure and try again

What is your XP Setup Source: x86 or x64 and what type ?

I'm sticking with the older method, with that I do not have to wait for anything to have been copied for the install can actually begin
Gonna work on that again later, just got a more recent updatepack from RyanVM forum, only 2 updates left with that (not counting 2 framework updates, that pack hasn't been updated yet, and the live essentials crap.)

Source is a Dutch XP Pro x86.

Not sure if anyone else uses WinPE v3 (Win7PE) to install XP - but a simple method is described here.

This is the method I use for all fully automated installs of XP from USB pen drive or network.

ok...friends, i have the aspire 1 and i am trying to change the OS from xp japanese to xp English. i did all the tutorial on the first page said but when i boot from usb and the installation starts, i only see drive U: to format. i do no see my computers hdd. please help me. i wanted to load the OS to my computers hdd and not the pendrive even thought i am booting from the usb stick...

If you don't see your HDD drive, it might be that you are missing MassStorage drivers.
Another cause can be wrong BIOS Setting.

Before Install Change your SATA BIOS Setting from AHCI into IDE Controller or Compatibility.

Supports the use of BTS DriverPacks located in OEM Folder on USB-Drive

For installing XP on modern systems with SATA Drives it is needed to use DPsBase.exe
for Integrating in your XPSOURCE BTS DriverPack Massstorage with TXT Mode Enabled.
In that case a lot of Extra RAID SCSI and SATA Drivers (about 120 extra) are Integrated and will appear in the
XP Setup BootFolder $WIN_NT$.~BT on USB-Drive and can prevent a lot of XP Installation Boot Problems.
First use RyanVM Integrator and then use DPsBase to Improve your XP-Source.

hello...you rock! i went to my BIOS and just change AHCI to IDE. and i found my hdd and was able to install xp on it. its the net and now i am happy. thanks to you. in fact i am using the netbook to type this msg.
i wanted to ask that is it possible i keep the AHCI settings but this time i use xp for SATA disks. will it work?

Let me know if this solves your problem.
Otherwise it might be that C:\WINDOWS\system32\fsutil.exe is missing

usb_prep8 is outdated. Use USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd and Vista UAC = off

I am getting hall.dll error

The error can be due to a Hidden First Partition (case of HP Computer) so that you Install on partition(2)

yes their is one more partition in my lenovo laptop which is used to system restore.I did not farmatted this partition because i want to install all drivers etc.
I tried changing in boot.ini but no success and i may think i am missing here in boot.ini.

Ill continue to install drivers and finish it but later i need to install xp again

Here what i seen when i choosed grub4dos it tried to install in usb too
Now my usb drive is gone as D drive
and my hard drive 2nd or 3rd partiotion gone f drive while cd rom is E drive
Let me know where i went wrong as far as i believe it is only in boot.ini
