*** IMG_XP package Version 2.2 - Boot XP from Image file on USB ***

You can use IMG_XP_Create.exe and USB_XP_Fix.exe to make Universal XP Image file bootable from USB

Download - IMG_XP

  • Added - Created Image Size selectable from 0.4 GB in small steps until 7 GB
  • Added - Option to Add EWF Write Filter to protect the XP Image file for unwanted changes
  • Changed - WinVBlock updated to latest version 0.0.1.8-DEV (Feb-14-2011)
  • Changed - Program Version - latest version is 2.2 for USB_XP_Fix.exe

More Info - http://www.911cd.net...showtopic=23553

:(

 :) EDIT: but the link took me to IMG_XP_21.exe instead of IMG_XP_22.exe

EDIT2: Also checked the upload date, its the same build! (2.1) :wheelchair:

What I think is best value is Start=3 (load on demand).

:( oh... thanks

Just want to tell you Thanks for your tool and working fine my mini7.
Installed on IntelPentium 4, tested on AMD, working well.
As you know, for Win7 no need to install any drivers, as installed itself.
Running on Ram disk. Tried with VHD in USB Flash. No way to load because loading too slow.

Very nice result.
Can you give some more details on how you prepared and installed your mini7 in only 1.6 GB Image file.

Instead of USB flash you can try 2.5 inch USB harddisk, which is sufficiently small and has easy connect without power supply.
That is very convenient and for me has boottime of 45 sec - 1.8 min for XP image file booting from USB and connected to various hardware.

Have a closer look.
The link is to IMG_XP folder at mediafire and it contains both versions 21 and 22
The old version will be removed in a week if everything is found to be OK.

Huh... this is strange :) I'm quite sure i checked it twice, somehow now it does show 22...

my eyes are playing tricks on me... :wheelchair: (edit: this could be my night dark theme, makes background #000000)

cant we just DISABLE the loading of INTELPPM.SYS from registry ./?

I would not remove anything but you should have a closer look at the registry.
After BSOD then on next try the ControlSet will be changed and can be e.g. ControlSet002 which has wrong Start value for intelppm service.

Mount your XP Image file in ImDisk and then with regedit select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and then use load component
to load SYSTEM registry file as loaded_SYSTEM
Then have a look at the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Select
and determine which ControlSet is set as Current Default
Then go to that ControlSet e.g. ControlSet002 and check Start value of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\intelppm

Change intelppm service Start value in 3
Unload loaded_SYSTEM registry and close regedit
ReOpen My Computer and with R-mouse Unmount your XP Image

Then test again .....

WIMB
thank you for replying./...
i double checked , the INTELPPM service was set to 3 , BEFORE i tried it on AMD ,.

and nothing changed in the registry after BSOD , since it was protected with EWF already .,

any other hints ?

Hi Wimb,

Can you give some more details on how you prepared and installed your mini7 in only 1.6 GB Image file.
Nothing special. Used vLite and compressed drive. That's all.
Used 2.5" usb hdd last week and it's crashed now :whistling: .
I can't use it any more. I can access files, though I can see it's partitions.
When I open, all folders and files are blank. All are shown as 0 byte.
Can't format (even though low level format).
Can't delete partitions/volume. When I try to delete/format, Windows said HDD is not in ready to use.
I can't initialise it. I've tried with dos mode though no luck.
Waiting for next buget from my wife to buy a new one.

Thanks and regards,

ah

Hi Wimb,

Very nice results here.
The size is 1.8g only with Office 2k7 (Word,Excel,PP)only but I enjoy with it.
Posted Image

The size can be reduced in XP machine, not in Win7 machine.
That's only I noticed.
Thanks again.

@Aye Htay

Very Nice result, it is really impressive. :confused1:

I assume you have also Printer support now, which is missing in 7 PE
Also you keep installed drivers and settings, so it will be much better than 7 PE where drivers must be reinstalled all the time.

@maanu
Nice to hear from you that the problem is solved.
It can be quite complicated sometimes .....

I have another request:

Can you please make a dir list of your Mini7 Image file e.g. after mounting with ImDisk you might use:

dir /b /on /s /a-d >dir_mini7.txt

Also exported registry files of SYSTEM and SOFTWARE and DEFAULT can be quite useful. :confused1:
You might in XP use regedit and select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and then Load the hives from the mini7 - Windows\System32\config folder

In that case we might simply assemble the mini7 from existing installed Windows 7.

It will be on purpose on the exclude list - makebt\NO_xcopy_IMG_XP.txt

There was no change regarding pagefile.sys
Normally you would set Virtal memory as to have NO pagefile (use Comp Properties - Advanced)

Hi Wimb,

Here is your requested. I know you'll add them in Portable 7PE.
I think quite tricky with it. You need to export regs.
I may delete the files in next few hours as I've just shared to developers only.

@Agni

You'll get it soon. :crazyrocker:

pagefile.sys is needed in some way. As for me, I usally set the smallest pagefile size (25-50mb) in NT 5x version though you may not need in NT 6x version.
But Photoshop like software, they definitely need large pagefile size likely 1gb or more. After successfully loading Windows, you can change to set pagefile on other drives easily.

ah

@ wimb

ok good to know .

by the way , does winvblock or firadisk support DIRECT LOAD img ?

like in xp sp3 we have this facility already . where we can load even 2GB img file , from 512MB Ram as direct load

i.e map /XP.IMG (hd0)
map --hook
chainloader (hd0,0)/ntldr

can we also load win7 img like this ?

@ wimb

you might find it a bit funny , but is there any way / trick to " change " the name of " XPRAM_1.IMG " which is default name , into custom name ,i.e " MYIMG.IMG "

i have a img made , no matter i rename it to any img file , but when it gets loaded " or mounted with imdisk " , it always gets the name of " XPRAM_1.IMG " , i dont understand that FROM WHERE it gets this name.

@maanu

you mean the label.
you can change it simply with right click > rename.
after dismount - remount and it will assume the new label.

Hi all; how do I merge/integrate the Driverpack drivers in an already installed XP, NOT INTO THE INSTALLATION MEDIA.
Can driverforge or any other tool do that do that? Cheers!
