This Panther deployment system uses the Longhorn PE to launch setup, but I am unable to get it to boot from usb.
More info on Longhorn PE here (without images) http://gosh.msfn.org/WinPE.htm

This is the first time i have tried a custom xp os installer and am running into a error when i try and boot usa_xpsp3_x86_vl_pxp-legacy.iso in VMware Workstation / Oracle VM VirtualBox. i get the error:
"The file intelide.sys is corrupted".
I started with the PantherXP deployment kit and followed the readme to a t, and i stel get this error. I then moved the making of the install iso to the VM OS. but i stell get the same error when i try and install PantherXP. I have tested the XP Pro SP3 VLK iso and its good. Any one have any clue what im doing wrong or how i can fix this error?
Thank you for your time,

Also, I have a problem with intelide.sys in VMware:
I built usa_xpsp3_x86_vl_pxp-legacy.iso based on this iso: en_windows_xp_professional_with_service_pack_3_x86_cd_vl_x14-73974.iso
What is going on?
I want to make a WinXP installer based on WIM.
The post just above you is the same.

3.) Right click on Intel IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and select "Update Driver". Use the "Advanced" and then "Don't Search" options to select Standard IDE drivers for installation. Replace all Intel IDE drivers with Standard.
then:
4.) Reboot the reference machine and run %SystemDrive%\sysprep\sysprep.cmd. When the command in done, shutdown the sealed system.
If the machine is sysprepped without the intelide.sys, it shouldn't be asking for it.

@Wonko
I can't update driver Intel IDE because I can't install the system from the usa_xpsp3_x86_vl_pxp-legacy.iso image in VMware
Here's what I do step by step:
- host PC is WinXP Pro SP2 on ThinkPad X61 laptop
- I am extracting pantherxp_en_dk.exe to D:\PantherXP directory
- I am copying the x14-73974.iso content to the D:\files directory
- I'm building the BOOT directory using legacy_boot.cmd
- copying the BOOT and I386 folders to the appropriate locations in D:\Panther
- I perform the remaining steps described in deploy_readme.txt
- I am building a usa_xpsp3_x86_vl_pxp-legacy.iso image using legacy_cdimage.cmd
- in VMware I create a HW6 machine with USB and disconnected NIC - 1 CPU, 1GB RAM, 5GB HDD IDE
- in VMware machine I am mounting the usa.iso image and trying to install the system but I get the intelide.sys error at the very beginning of the TXT-Setup phase

F..k, I made a mistake in step 5. I deleted the BOOT and I386 folders from legacy_template before copying but it seemed obvious to delete these folders if we want to build Panther based on another version of WinXP - in deploy_readme.txt explicitly says that the files in the template are from WinXP SP3
The legacy_boot.cmd batch file does not copy several files from I386 to BOOT folder:
- ALIIDE.SY_
- CMDIDE.SY_
- INTELIDE.SY_
- TOSIDE.SY_
- VIAIDE.SY_
but these files are present after unpacking pantherxp_en_dk.exe in PantherXP\legacy_template\[ROOT]\BOOT
The legacy_boot.cmd script only copies 107 files without *IDE.SY_ but creates a list of 265 files needed in bootfiles.txt but in the BOOT directory after unpacking pantherxp_en_dk.exe there are only 117 files - maybe it's the minimum amount needed ???
I don't know why the author didn't add the files: ALIIDE.SY_ CMDIDE.SY_ INTELIDE.SY_ TOSIDE.SY_ VIAIDE.SY_ to the list in legacy_boot.cmd ???
After manually copying these five files, everything works

I became interested in the Panther project because of the possibility of WinPE installation from the WIM image. However, I do not understand what HAL detection is all about. Is the original WinXP installer unable to detect HAL and select the right drivers? Why use the CrystalCPUID program ??
