New 2.0.805 version with UniCode support and extra help text labels + new ini file

[Edit]see http://www.boot-land...?...st&p=100280 for latest version[/Edit]

Some ini files may need slight alterations. For chinese/russian - sorry but unicode is only supported on help box and not on labels, you will have to use English for labels.

Steve,
Russian.ini that you added to build 805 was transcoded windows-1251 > windows-1252 > Unicode and thus invalid. I fixed it.
On RMprepUSB I tested both Russian and RussianU, work fine. I give up ANSI-file, unicode-file is displayed correctly now

Here is updated link Russian.ini (unicode) v2.0.805 + screenshots

Working on pdf...

Original DOC for quick access

1. At the top of article there is Last Review: June 29, 2004 - Revision: 5.2. I think i hasn't beet tested for compatibility with Windows 7 (both 32 & 64). If you make a small forms-2.0-controls-sample-application with fm20.dll used - i can test it for compatibility.
Btw, I tried MS office 97 (which uses fm20) on both versions of Win7 - it worked fine

2. Did you try these [url="http://"%20<a%20href="http://www.timosoft-software.de/""%20target="_blank">http://www.timosoft-software.de/"</a>"]free unicode-capable vb6 components[/url]?

Thanks for your help. I did try adding the forms 2 component to vb6 and use it and it seemed to work. However, I want to make RMPrepUSB simple to use for everyone and also compatible for future OS's. If I used this component, it needs to be downloaded and installed by the user and on Win 7 64-bit, Windows does not install it, unless you install it in XP compatible mode.
The TimoSoft library seems to require a newer version of comctl32.dll (or at least a different one to that in Win 64-bit Ultimate as it complained when I tried to compile the sample files). Also some ocx files seem to be missing on my system (e.g. vbalIml6.ocx ???) so I am worried about compatibility. My main concern is that RMPrepUSB works on all XP+ windows platforms and does not require any extra files to be installed by the user. If that means some of the non-English language support is lacking, it will have to be so. The RTF help box will be in the correct language and should contain enough info to help the non-English user.

Thank you for your irrefragable answer.
Concerning lack of non-english users support, Windows 7 helps to solve most of the problems related to character encoding with it's abilities to substitute characters in non-unicode programs with system character set. I mean e.g. Russian localization can be read fine on all Windows' with cyrillic ansi charset, Chinese localization - on chinese systems and so on. I think it's enough and there is no need for international language files to be displayed identically on different machines with different languages and charset parameters. Furthermore, VB6 has some uncertainties with unicode as we all see.

I want to make RMPrepUSB simple to use for everyone and also compatible for future OS's

What do you think about the future plans with VB .NET?

Thanks, I have made one small change as you had two &C shortcuts

cmdClean=清除(&W)

and removed a few spaces from last line of Help box text as wrapped over the line on 805 version.

What system OS are you using? I thought most OS's from XP+ had this control?

Try regsvr32 \windows\system32\RICHTX32.OCX to register the active X control???

Thanks for the doc, must have taken you a while! I don't intend to add any more to the ini file now unless considered essential. I hope most users will have a small understanding of English (HDD, C:, boot, USB, etc.). Error messages will have a ! in them and probably a Windows sound, so should be obvious a problem has been met. My main concern is that the help text is translated so that they can understand what the controls actually do.

It is great that so many people are helping to make this an international application!

Hey, got this error too. My Windows 7 x86 RTM doesn't have RICHTX32.OCX, had to download it from net and put in the RMPrepUSB folder. Now OK.

Btw, fixed Russian translation from this post is OK, letter-perfect (it's my native language), so you can add it in the future release

And many thanks for you great work!

Thanks for the feedback. I will include the OCX and a simple install file with the next package.

If anyone has any INI files and they cannot include the download in their post, you can use www.mediafire.com or similar and include the link in the post.

Simplified Chinese Language in the version 805 had wrong, you should change it as this,or the font is too big to fit the rich text box.

And I'm translating the HELP FILE.
And I think you could add some new lines
Like using the local language name, for instance,Simplified Chinese is "简体中文" Traditional Chinese is "正體中文" Japanese is "日本語"

New version 2.0.806

Includes a folder with install script for the RICHTX32.OCX control.
INI files are now in a LANG folder.
Ini files now define LCID as well as CharSet number. See Text file in LANG folder for LCID values.
Adds unicode support for labels and buttons.

If you are non-chinese and have non-chinese XP, you will need to add the chinese language support (Add/Remove Programs - Regional - Languages) to see the text on the controls in Chinese.

Please check your own language ini files are correctly displayed and on as many different systems as possible.

[Edit]see http://www.boot-land...?...st&p=100280 for latest version[/Edit]

(new French ini file not added - next time :)
