1. No it was from the %Targetdir%, adding from the usb stick in this post (This is from a non domain computer)

2. Yes, I have no problem setting the permission using regedit and on the system and software hives.

3. When I tried today they did must have made some error before. Though still got BSOD when I booted from the usb stick.

Hi Psadi,
i guess , reason found (i have to test first)

As you can see from txtsetupsif, all usb drivers should be loaded when
'input device support' group is loaded.
But some drivers are configured to start when 'Base' group is loaded.
For some combinations usbstor is loaded before usbehci etc ...

thanks will try .your script

i was reading this link ,The ultimate guide for installing and running Windows XP from a USB stick / HDD drive
http://www.ngine.de/...d=1tq2y7wgayny6

as my txtsetup.sif created by livexp only has 4 drivers in it
[BootBusExtenders.Load]
pci=pci.sys
acpi=acpi.sys
isapnp=isapnp.sys
acpiec=acpiec.sys

this must be why it wont boot from usb surly
Im going to alter my build manually ie change txtsetup.sif adding drivers n stuff
im also had a play with naughtyPE to see what txtsetup was made , at least it had usbstor.sys

Hi jsgage,

the insructions suggest you to move all usb drivers to
'boot buss extenders' service group. Thats true for a real xp, because
there is no 'input device support' service group.

It is possible for PE , but keep it simple!
Else you have to sync Pe registry with txtsetup.sif for
usb storge/usb keyboard/usb mouse drivers.

Check [InputDevicesSupport.Load] section in txtsetup.sif.

Psadi,

At risk of sounding like an idiot....

i had the same issue, with the same set of computers that you seem to have, only my issue was reverse(worked on gx260, failed on gx620 and above).

Initially, i got the newest ICH9 chipset driver from Intel, and updated the txtsetup.sif manually to include the updated IaStor.sys file. Obviously, this is not such a grand idea, but it worked for the time.

Then, i found out about DP mass storage drivers script when i switched from the NativeEx project to LiveXP. I also, as suggested above, enabled usb support - and hwpnp.

This resolved my 7B error i was getting on chipsets above ich7 and 8.

Also, popping in a hard drive will not fix your issue. This is "Controller" based issue. PE simply does not have drivers for the chipset until you import them. Unfortunately, this means PE won't boot, and blue screens with spectacular fail, on every boot, on every unsupported machine.
