Judging from the screenshot here:New interesting project:
http://bootsticks.de.to
And from the google translate of the "Free":
http://translate.goo...50.html&act=url
as opposed to the "Pro" version:
http://translate.goo...50.html&act=url
The Author has a nice approach to supporting programmers' families, but has some really confused ideas between "Free" as in "Freely redistributable" as opposed to "Free" as in Freedom.
As I see it, it is very nice of him/her to have removed WAREZ from the Hiren's boot CD :
http://bootsticks.np...gb_3702688.html
though I doubt that Western Digital or Seagate allow redistribution of their "custom" Acronis apps....

...and as well that MS allows him/her to redistribute Windows 7 recovery files1. License Grant. In other words, nice idea , BUT IMHO not fully "legal" and ANYWAY having NOTHING to do with the present topic.
And BTW using an obsolete version of grub4dos, NOT recommended.

The question is..
- Which version of Mac OSX was it? Leopard or Snow Leopard?
- Was it stored as a .ISO, .IMG, .DMG (.DMG is typical imaging on the Mac)
- Also, could / would this thing be able to boot a Mac OSX .DMG or .ISO on a Hackintosh !!! ?

Wonko approves of this and particularly of this :Open source usb cd emulator released and fully working.
http://renosite.com/index2.html
What do I get out of this?
Mostly I just want to see the full protential of like minded techs come togeather and help create something this industry needs - better tech tools. If we can save time or brain power uning technoligies to help us then why not? Who else knows better then us what we need in the field?

Reading this very thread starting here might help:Is there some place, where i can get some info about, what they are talkig about in the forum?

In a nutshell from a "custom made board", the development was shifted to pre-made "general use" components like the teensy++ board:
http://www.pjrc.com/teensy/
and it's accessories (at the expense of probably some lesser speed ).

Unfortunately, i have to say, that using it for a specific machine or a close range of machines USB boot might be a good idea, but for general use, across 'all' computers, USB boot is still a bad idea.
Still too many computers out there, which boot at least slower from USB than from a CDVD if at all.
Why is nobody popping off the sidelit of the computer and connect to the (S)ATA bus, that will always work and give great speed?

Ahh! Thanks, now i understand. But this would still require a computer than can boot from USB.

I like the way you think - About the sata direct tie in. I have pondered working on an interface along those lines.
I agree not all computers boot usb, but anything within the last 3 years or so is almost a guarantee.
I disagree with the statement about usb booting is slower. Your half right. Booting from say a thumb drive or external cdrom drive is usually a slow process. CDRom drives still have the mechanical slowdowns. And usb thumb drives have poor data through put.
But the two concept projects I did last year (evk1104 and custom board usb emulator) proved that usb 2.0 is quicker then an internal cdrom drive. With the posted code I have online anyone with an evk1104 devel board can load up and compile the code and test it. It will emulate any library of iso's saved to a standard sd media card. while most cdrom drives top out around 50-60x speeds. My project was tested to 85x sustained speeds. I was able to boot a live ubuntu linux cd and load up firefox, configure wireless and post something online in about 2 mins The best part of this project is the medium is your slowest link the rest is all code - not a single mechanical part to slow anything down. I don't even run any kind of internal readahead buffer it's just direct from sd card to usb - about 12 mb per sec. (max sd card speed I had)
Anyone who's installed xp before will appreciate this video, I shot it to compare loading time of xp pro setup. Booted on my hp laptop, booting from the custom board.
I agree the teensy++ project is slow only around 2x speed currently, but it's more of something everyone can afford to spend a few bucks on for a weekend project. Then once someone has a time to read the code maybe, just maybe someone else will build from this and create something awesome. Or may help with the evk1104 or custom board emulator(85x current).
At this point I'm just looking for interested people to test out the teensy++ emulator and report back on the forum
Thanks,

You should have a comparison with a "normal" USB stick, NTFS formatted, using this method of installing XP:
http://www.msfn.org/...aded-iso-image/
or this one :
http://www.msfn.org/...omusb-with-gui/
the 12 Mb/sec is quite common, compare with:

Hmm I am tempted to buy this "ZM-VE200" thing. Although, I have my own bootable UFD, not every ISO works.
I just noticed, seems to be available only within the EU?
Which Bootable UFD thing are you using/ how was it created? Link to a Guide please?

I have been experimenting more with booting puppy linux ISOs recently.
I found that I could not get puppy precise, tahr or slacko to use any 'iso' cheat code (I tried about 12 different ones!) for pure .iso file booting from USB.
However, I did find that you can extract the .sfs file from the ISO and place it in ANY folder of ANY name on the USB drive and Puppy will find it. However, it only searches one-level down. This worked on both FAT32 and NTFS drives. No extra cheat code is needed.
e.g. \fredxxy\precise-5.7.1.sfs is just found and loads!
You may also need to specify a pmedia= parameter to match the type of boot device
#The following cheat codes have been tried with precise, slacko and tahr and none work!! #iso_filename=%ISOSCAN% isofrom_system=%ISOSCAN% isoboot=%ISOSCAN% isoloop=%ISOSCAN% img_loop=%ISOSCAN% #bootfromiso=%ISOSCAN% findiso=%ISOSCAN% fromiso=%ISOSCAN% from=%ISOSCAN% #isofrom=%UUID%:%ISOSCAN% iso-scan/filename=%ISOSCAN% isofrom_device=/dev/disk/by-uuid/%UUID% isofrom_system=%ISOSCAN% #iso-scan/filename=%ISOSCAN% isofrom_device=/dev/disk/by-uuid/%UUID% isofrom_system=%ISOSCAN% #boot from ISO - sqfs file must be extracted to level1 folder (any name of folder - e.g. \fred) #e.g. \xyzzy\puppy_precise_5.7.1.sfs and puppy will find it - does not work if level2 folder or below (e.g. \xyxxy\fred\xxx.sfs will not work) #works for FAT32 or NTFS - name of .sfs file must be lower case (extract using 7zip on ISO file) #many diferent .sfs files can be placed in the same folder for other versions too title Puppy Precise boot from ISO map /_ISO/Linux/precise-5.7.1.iso (0xff) map --hook root (0xff) #pmedia can be (nothing) ='auto', or usbhd, satahd, idehd, scsihd, usbflash kernel /vmlinuz pmedia= psavemark=1 initrd /initrd.gz

why not create something like Rufus (looking to Akeo)
but it create a grub4dos into bootsector,
add a inf+dll (or something) for winNT drivers to make iso as drive
for have access on an winnt-setup-iso for 2nd boot
the Grub4dos for able to make reopen the configuration
with an automatic add and remove iso, editable Entry's
so, if you plugin the usb-stick in and start the "Usb-ISO-boot-Manager" at root of the stick
start in Winnt, maby a binary for linux too ? For open it in Linux too..
maybe as QT application, to use in both Systems too..
then have we are an application for all systems..
and not only WinNT .. this can use in Reactos too, as portable QT-Application.
so can we remove or add/update a reactos-trunk iso as possible example
or maybe different Linux-install-CD's and so on, to have a easy way
to create a bootable usbstick with different iso's..
or maybe a i586+x86_64 Linuxiso's + WinNT or something..
did you see the grub-customizer ?
https://launchpad.net/grub-customizer
something maybe in QT + automatic iso-adding/remove/updater program
who update the entrys in the menu from an folder, maybe /iso
put the iso into this folder "/iso" and start the "Usb-ISO-boot-Manager"
on the root of the stick(or usb harddrive) this can reorganising the menu
and check up what's comes new into and what's was on it before and add
the new entry's at bottom of the menu with the possible for move up,
down and re-edit the entry's ..
on the root of the usb-stick a autorun.inf or exe for loading automatically a
isodrive.sys(or something) for connect the winnt-setup automatical as drive for loading,
copying and so on from the winnt iso files.
plugin the usb-stick, autostart the /an driveconnector and plug in automatic the winnt-isofile as driveletter
and it should work in reactos too for using it in the future also..
maybe support for extfs, reiserfs, vfat and so on for large iso-files...
like i told.. a idea/suggestion for an Usb-ISO-boot-Manager (and Winnt-setup-iso manager)
like akeo's rufus easy a exefile with many possibility's with iso files
best regards

other idea/suggestion,
a programm who create a Stick, where must you only put
iso's in a iso foder and by boot seach the
bootloader the folder \isos and the iso's and create
a list of the iso's for booting the single iso in the list.
maybe something like Rufus, but a own program who prepare
a boot-usb-stick for booting and
collecting the informations of the iso's from the folder /isos on the stick
or use the name of the iso if not be informations inside in the iso,
on the folder \isos for create automatical a bootmenu .
so need only put the whole iso's into the folder /isos
and the bootloader make the rest by booting and startup the menu.
the user have only once to do, putting the iso's into the isos folders
on the usb-stick.
want anybody programming this ? I guess want be the same success like
Rufus.. but with a program who boot's any iso by boot and collecting the informations.
easy by copy the iso's into the \isos folder..
usbboot.sys
\bloader // for the whole automated bootloader programm
\tmp //for themporary iso listings and maybe with enhanced informations from the iso's(if exist)
\isos // for the users for putting in his iso's for collecting and booting the informations of the iso's by bloaderprogramm
"A Programm like rufus where prepare and transform the USB-Stick into a
automated iso-bootloader for easy putting the iso in the isos folder . "

Rufus extracts the ISO. You can only do that with one ISO.
Have you tried Easy2Boot? Is that what you want?
#44
Posted 03 December 2016 - 07:35 PM
nope, not extracting ,
only put in the folder \isos
and not extractiing because
bootable iso's be bootable
and this not extracting only as iso's
i told, like rufus but not rufus, because,
rufus have an other technical working.
and the to programming "usb-stick-isos-booting" Program
should format, create folders, setup the bootsector and
put the bootprogram into his own folder (like \bloader (bootloader))
and create a \temp & \isos folders, where can put the users the isos into the isos folder.
where can read the iso's from \isos and put it into the generate bootlist..
for booting the single iso..

This seems to me like the description of EXACTLY what Easy2Boot does, with a confidence level of around 99%nope, not extracting ,
only put in the folder \isos
and not extractiing because
bootable iso's be bootable
...
and this not extracting only as iso's
and create a \temp & \isos folders, where can put the users the isos into the isos folder.
where can read the iso's from \isos and put it into the generate bootlist..
for booting the single iso..
If you could detach for a moment from "your" idea and reply to:
Have you tried Easy2Boot? Is that what you want?
I am pretty sure there could be some progresses in the conversation.
