As you might notice, there is a large numbers of members "from" Afghanistan.
Some of these "Afghan" members show an excellent knowledge of English, whilst some show a noticeable lack of it.
Given the unfortunate situation of war in which Afghanistan is currently involved, and given that however its population is relatively small and most probably the percentage of people having an Internet access is at the moment really meager, noticed the above variations in the language used, I find the amount of "Aghan" members to be highly improbable.
My guess is that this happens because Afghanistan is the first country in the drop down list when you register.
There is no need to state your country citizenship, it is just a way to put some colours on your posts and possibly help other members to try and reply in a simpler way to people that state they are coming from non English speaking countries, or in some occasions (I am afraid it would be very difficult in this instance ) to reply in your language.
So, if you feel that your Privacy is at risk and like not to display publicly where you come from, please remove from your profile the setting.
If you wish to set it, please do it properly.
Thanks for your cooperation.

Hi, jaclaz!So, if you feel that your Privacy is at risk and like not to display publicly where you come from, please remove from your profile the setting.
I'm afraid that a way doesn't exist to remove that information (as I know).
I remember that just when I subscribed to this (great! ) board I thought to remove "my" flag (not for privacy, however it's too long to describe it), but it seems that it is impossible.
I saw some user that doesn't show any flag in the forum, and always I ask myself how they have done!

Maybe a transparent gif can be used as "flag" and placed as first option for new people registering or those who wish to keep this detail private?

The blank gif is a good solution.

Here, i've got you a transparent gif, it's a real masterpeise!
Handcrafted by virgins at the first full moon of mai!
Is there a way to attach a pic in a way that not the pic but the link is shown?
Maybe this is possible using php - but my knowledge on this language is very limited.
Here's the code displayed:
<br><img src='http://boot-land.net/forums/flags/{key}.gif'><br>{key}
{key} is a variable that represents the name of the country.
In the meanwhile I've disabled the obrigatory country selection meaning that new members can keep this information as private.

Ehm... your file is 1x1 pixels!Nuno do you already have the pic extracted, or should i post a ziped version?
Instead, my file is 36x25 pixels and it is perfect to replace the flag!

Can't say that it's a common thing to try finding a 1x1 transparent pixel inside a post..
This could even become a sort of game, who knows?
----
While I don't find medEvil's image I'll try out with the one from online - thanks to both!

I've added a new field on the first position with the value
<none>=
This results in a invalid variable string when this code is used:
<br><img src='http://boot-land.net/forums/flags/{key}.gif'><br>{key}
It works because there is no flag image called "http://boot-land.net...ums/flags/.gif" and the value {key} is the same as ""
All members can keep their country information private.
Personal CP --> Edit Profile Information --> Country --> Select the first box (empty)
-------------
btw: I'm still trying to find the original 1x1 pixel

Of course, nobody, me too, wants to get spam and similar because information about his/her email etc. has been found in a forum.
But on the other hand between the forum users there should be a kind of friendship which gives more informatiuon than only a symbolic name.
As far as I remember, since the very beginning of this forum there has never been an confrontation between e.g. Israelian and Palestine or Greek and Turkish people, just to tell two examples.
What is the reason that people want to get a lot of information and help in this forum, but do not want to tell some (not usable for crawlers) information about themselves?

@Online:
Maybe because of my age my mind does not work properly any more. But I think to remember you showing the Italian flag.
Maybe you did not want to choose the first 'Afghanistan', maybe Italian is your nation's flag, but my question:
Was your shown flag correct and if 'yes': For what reason did you remove the flag?

Obviously you remember very well (you cannot have forgotten "Italian Defaults"...) and in my posts I never hide my nationality.@Online:

The flag is not representative for me, and it should take away the neutral spirit of a free thought.
In a forum I can express my ideas without ideologic barrier and a flag is as a wall.
I am interested in your ideas not in your nationality.
And ideas have not nationality.
Internet have not nationality, and I like it so...
Welcome, psc... I can assure that I felt your absence.
