Hi, Wonko

glad to see that you "remember" me!

Depending on my age (75 this year), I became a bit more quiet last years :wheelchair:

But I'm still watching what happens here, and when required (like in this thread) try to help.

#208374 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 26 November 2018 - 08:36 AM in Development

The WinBuilder dowload link has been reported as broken.

It was been caused by a new domain organisation at my provider.

The winbuilder.exec-se.de pointer was lost.

This affected not only WinBuilder, but also the plugins.

Fixed now.

Hi Sinan,

it has been a lot more than 1 to two days. But now I published multiPE version 79.

There has been a terrible bug, I usuall would declare as  :wodoo:

But it was a real bug, carefully introduced and hidden by me many years ago.

Just a presence of %isVista% where it should be %isWin7% :frusty:

I hope now it works for you.

#206580 Arabic WinPE

Posted by pscEx on 26 March 2018 - 10:08 AM in Community forum

Variable definition loop: [%spCabFile%=%spCabFile%]

This issue occurs, when something went wrong with source CD initialisation. Unfortunatelly I right now could not reproduce.

Usually in original script.project there are three sections [Variables.1], [Variables.2, [Variables.4].

One of them is missing and replaced by simply [Variables]

The  source CD init renames :

[Variables] to missing [Variables.x]

[Variables.1] to [Variables] for XP source

[Variables.2] to [Variables] for Vista source

[Variables.4 to [Variables] for Win7 source

In your case the best will be to

- reload the multiPE project

- create a new Winbuilder directory outside your user data, maybe C:\mytest

- unzip multiPE_latest.zip int this directory and restart WinBuilder here.

If again something goes wrong, describe completelly what you did, and include the complete log.html.

Only the errors do not help me. They do only document that an error occurred. I need the growing history of the errors.

No idea. Maybe there is another downlod server. If not, I'm sorry, the user must have the original Win install CD ISO. But that is also neccessary for all existing PE Bulders starting with Bart.

Install WinBuilder into a directory of your choice and run it. Your installation is the project. On Build a bootable minimum PE ISO will be crated.

You can extend the PE by your own addons.

3.) I cannot imagine why "L" hates "scripts" and favor plugins instead?

What are the (dis)advantages scripts vs. plugins?

Scripts and plugins are two different things. So you cannot compare (Dis)Advantages.

A script is a series of commands for an application, which are interpreted and executed by the application.

Plugins are additional functionalities added to an application. They are present, but not executed automatically by the application. They can be executed by a user command (or starting a script).

I'm not sure whether in the Bakery forum other applications besides WinBuilder are used for generating a PE, but declaring a WinBuilder Script as Plugin is a stupid and bad marketing action.

#202358 Is there no subforum for Win10PE?

Thank you for clarifying things.

Yes, "L" seems to be somehow "special". I understand.

Newbies can understand his chopped FAQ only if they already know everything.

What I need (and that's the way as I learned many other thing) is a good guide of structures.

It is pity that there is no central real open forum for WinBuilder.

Anyway thanks for now. I will revert to this forum in the next time.

Maybe some question could be answered by you.

Peter

Herzlich willkommen, Namensvetter!

I think you first need some more knowledge about WinBuilder.

To get a general overview across using Winbuilder 8x, look here

For an explanation / sample of WinBuilder / projects / scripts look here

To get a WinBuilder Help, look here

Some background: I'm the current developer of WinBuilder ("082" as well as "201x")

I stopped support of "082", because of the actions of the already known "L". At that time I canged my name from psc to pscEx to publish, that things are not longer like before.

Only my personal project "multiPE" has been continued including WinBuilder 083. New WinBuilder 083 project scripts need a License key which every "clean" developer can get for free.

"multiPE" can use source CDs XP, Vista, Win7. The architecture of multiPE allows an easy addidion of a new source CD like Win10.

The reason that I did not add  Win8, Win8.1 or Win10 is the fact that explorer.exe cannot be used as shell in these PEs.

In the other forum they use the workaround, to patch some original explorer files. IMHO a patch with some M$ original code from a different CD is illegal. Therefore I decided not to do.

Maybe you are the member starting to add Win10 to multiPE with a new way.

BTW: On demand I'm ready to add every senceful extention to WinBuilder 083.

All worked fine in pure non-UEFI hardware, but in UEFI I got issues.

With my Lenovo S540 , currently as workaround, it works like this:

In Setup (F1) :

Boot UEFI / Legacy: both

Boot priority: Legacy first

CSM support: Yes

Rename <ISOSTICK-Drive>\config\isosel.bin to <blabla>

With iso-manager choose the wanted ISO.

With F12 boot into the IsoStick CD.

>> success.

Execute the batch a user fails.

May be interesting: I have mounted an Acronis backup of a different PC as drive L:

Result "Not found". A hint could be nice that this drive is defined in the OS, but not physically existing. In my case it is physically located on drive G: G: is correctly recognised as drive #2

#200577 multiPE must not reside inside the user's profile directory!

Posted by pscEx on 11 October 2016 - 03:28 PM in MultiPE

When you search in the forum, there are some reports of troubles, when Winbuilder (and it's projects) are installed in the user directory.

Therefore this warning.

A warning is just an info for the user. It does not prohibit a successful project build, and it makes no sence to "fix" it.

it is recommended to use a root directory of a drive to install WinBuilder, e.g. D:\winbuilder.

Appearently it depends on my bad English, that on your first post got the impression, that you are a "professional complainer".

Your last post changed my opinion.

That's a shame, because v78 fails to boot for me (BSOD after stuck on the Windows boot screen for some time), while v77 works just fine.  (I've tried every variation I can think of to make it work.)

Bah, WinBuilder 2015 doesn't even boot for me on 50% of machines I try it on (says it can't find the boot drive or something), where-as old WinBuilder projects were usually very reliable.

I'm not sure whether you want to get help, or just complain?

To 1:

"I've tried every variation" is just a non-constructive complain giving no chance to help. :whistling: Please enum the hundreds of variations you tried.

It is not wise to want to have allways the latest version of an application, independent of you want to fix an issue of the current install.

Never change a running system!

Why using v78 when v77 fullfills your requirements? :dubbio:

To 2:

Same common complain w/o useful information:

How many machines do not boot with WB 2015? What's the type of the test machines? MBR or GPT? BIOS or EFI?

Please give an usable table wich can help to find the common property prohibiting a regular boot.

BTW: "Winbuilder 2015" has no logical connection to the current topic.

Peter

@Wonko: w/o more information I have no opinion whether v78 is a Verschlimmbesserung.

#199139 Boring boot sequence

Posted by pscEx on 07 June 2016 - 09:50 AM in Boot Linux and other OS flavours

The issue is solved.

It is valid for my personal configuration (described in post #7). Other configurations must be checked by the user!

Under Win10 (For Win7 bcdedit "bootmenupolicy" is unknown) execute as administrator:

bcdedit /set {current} bootmenupolicy legacy

Then booting runs as intended.

The solution has the (for me and Wonko(?) and ...) nice side effect that you see the good old "DOS" Win boot manager UI, rather than the graphical one.

Thanks alacran and Wonko! :worship:

#199137 Boring boot sequence

Posted by pscEx on 07 June 2016 - 08:41 AM in Boot Linux and other OS flavours

@Wonko: I do not see a difference between "my" and "your" grob.cfg (???)

@All:

Maybe it helps a bit for the future, here a more detailled history:

  • I got the Lenovo with Win8.1 Pro, no manual changes made to BCD & Co, rearranged partitions for my schedule of the final design.
  • I added Win7 (cheep gotten Dell OEM legal new Win7 professional), let the OS make the new boot arrangement, no manual changes made to BCD & Co
  •  I replaced Win8.1 with Win10, using the free M$ offer, let the OS make the new boot arrangement, no manual changes made to BCD & Co
  • I added Linux mint 17, which included automagically a new boot arrangement using grub(xxx), let the OS make the new boot arrangement, no remarkable manual changes made to BCD, grub.cfg  Co,
Only changed grub.cfg, to default to the last used boot procedure (${saved_entry})
  • Added Acronis15 and Grub2 (GRLM) recovery to the start menu, let the OS make the new boot arrangement, no manual changes made to BCD, grub.cfg & Co

@alacran, Wonko: Thanks. I really see the graphical manager when booting. I did not waste any thougt on this, I accepted as "standard" :dubbio:
I'll try alacran's suggestion using Wonko's link.

I know, I can save and restore the current BCD. But how reset to the current graphical bootmenupolicy by command line?

EDIT: I think with "bcdedit /deletevalue bootmenupolicy"

#199102 Boring boot sequence

Posted by pscEx on 05 June 2016 - 07:35 AM in Boot Linux and other OS flavours

In my Lenovo I have a strange boot behaviour , which I want to change if possible.

History:

Primarily I had Windows boot manager with Win7 and Win10.

Then I additionally installed Mint and let the Linux boot manager do the work.

What now happens:

On boot I choose "Win Boot Manager" and in the manager I choose "Win7".

Now the system loads some things, and then the Linux boot manager comes up again.

I have to choose "Win Boot manager" again, and then Win7 comes up.

I do want not to have the second appearance of Linux Boot Manager.

Any suggestions?

Friends! Thanks for stressing your mind .

In spite I did not find an universal "modern" solution yet. So I built my own "Stone Age" solution. :wheelchair:

I created a SFTP server on my web space, which only contains the KeePass database.

Currently I'm creating batches on all my different OS PCs, which download that database, start KeePass and save the database after all, when changed.

The difficulty is that, depending on the host OS, I have to use WinScp, cURL, ???, ...

But that will only be a question of some days ... :pressure:

The title tells no news, and since the date of XP's dead I still live with it, without getting the unrequired updates by Billy the door.

I still do my whole work under XP (dayly officework, C++ dev, Delphi dev, java dev) .

I thought I could do so a long time.

But now there is an event which makes my work difficult.

I have some other OS: Mobile and tablet android; Win7, Win 10 and Mint 17 test. All of these are connected to DropBox. The only item I use with dropbox is my KeePass database.

Soon in august dropbox wants to finish to run under xP, maybe on suggestion of Billy the Gate.

Forum, please help me, to find a clowd program which can replace dropbox. Just for sharing keepass. I do not want to share my documents, pictures, videos etc, like most clowd programs do (w/o chance of suppressing).

Our friend google did not give me usable suggestions right now.

#198574 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 01 April 2016 - 04:12 PM in Development

A new version of WinBuilder is available.

What's New in Version 2016.03.28

  • Removed incompatibility glitches when building on Linux. Install on Mint17 is running now w/o issues

Sorry that it took a while. I have been in a hospital with some heart troubles.

But now everything is ok again.

The current plugins will or will not work on the new WinBuilder. You have to test.

I'm going to upload revised plugins step by step next days.

There is a general change: PortableApps setup files (*.paf.exe) will not any more be expanded (or tried to do). There is a general issue with expanding NSIS by the current sevenzipbinding (see https://sourceforge....hread/7e226e5f/).

There are differences between expanding under Windows and Linux. Therefore I decided that the user has to deliver the app.

When installing a plugin with a *paf.exe setup, you get the hint that you have to setup the application into a named directory.

During build of the PE, when this setup is not done, you get the hint again.

I'm sorry for this inconvenience, wich cannot be solved by WinBuilder. As soon, as there is a new (running) version of sevenzipbinding, I'll include in WinBuilder and using of portable apps as plugins will become easier.

#198364 WinBuilder

You can create portable apps.
Did you already look to documentation http://reboot.pro/to...-documentation/

Because of a bug in sevenzip library not all downloaded apps *.paf.exe can be extracted directly.

See as example:

Just download and extract: HxD
Register internally but do not download and expand: PiriformRecuvaPortable
Attach to the plugin: PiriformCCleanerPortable.

To write distributable plugins you need a developer key included in the winbuilder directory.
I'll PM you your key

#198362 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 12 March 2016 - 09:22 AM in Development

Config win7PE still does not work. Still testing.

See the help: config ?

Config core win7pe

Some of these require you to do some extra steps like making a folder and running the app. But in Linux, even with wine some of these apps will not run.

Also, this did not give me any hints.

I'll again go through all plugins and try to make the output more explaining.

BTW: By a glitch in the upload assemblation batch again certification errors appear. I'll fix.

In half an hour you can download a test at http://winbuilder.ex...-03-07.test.zip

Best will be to unzip into an empty directory and start from scratch.

On plugin install, only ERROR and FAILURE messages are real errors. INFO and WARNING etc. give hints that the user has to do something before adding the plugin to the project.

Yes, I already fixed some erroneous plugins. Partly download URLs have been changed by the author and were no nonger available. Information during download / installl of plugins is now more describing for the user.

Yesterday I reproduced the shortcut issue on Mint. I think tonight it is fixed.

#198235 Windows 10 PE

Posted by pscEx on 04 March 2016 - 12:18 PM in Win8PE

I'm not very sure about the seriousity (or real world acceptance) of this side.

I have the question whether the app can clone XP too.

But there is no link on the page where I can ask.

In German right there are at least the links IMPRESSUM and (optionally) CONTACT recommended.

Here there are only links to twitter, facebook, google+.

They appearently assume that all the world is member in at least one of these unnecessary  social networks.

At least for me and maybe millions of other serious programmers this necessarity is not applied!

In spite the product seems to be (untested, from the description) excellent, for me the supplyer is not a real trustable professional.

use

#197859 Problems booting WinPe Se

Posted by pscEx on 17 February 2016 - 05:16 PM in Support

Some possible reasons:

1st when the 'hangingPC' has never been changed and now suddenly fails, some VooDoo happened and I cannot explain or help.

2nd when the 'hanging PC' is previously running, but sowmehow fails after a change, my magic crystal ball refuses to find a solution because it has no knowledge about the change.

3nd when you added a new PC, my magic crystal ball is also not able to help, but you could help with explaining what's new.

There is an issue with spaces in the path to ISO / DVD.

For the path 'Q:\CDs Standard' I had to change in make_re_from_dvd.cmd:

copy %folder%\sources\boot.wim %dest%\iso\sources

to

copy "%folder%\sources\boot.wim" "%dest%\iso\sources"

Maybe similar is necessary in other batches.

Converting apm.inf in a UTF8 file the way you described results in a UTF8 file without a BOM.

Maybe I misunderstood your first post.

IMO UTF8 was eqivalent to ansi.

Post the first bytes of the UTF16, and post the bytes how they should be in the result.

BTW: IMO "ÿþ" is the flag for UNICODE in UTF16.

The ComPort.zip in the previous post contains at least one indistributable application (devcon.exe).

The new version has no file attached and downloads and attaches them when necessary.

Sorry, I forgot to add some classes which are not necessary in the standard PicoXP, but necessary here.

Use the original 5 - CopyAndExpand.Script and add the attached ComPort.Script / zip.

For your comfort, NT_TTY and devcon are attached in the script and can optionally be added to the build's i386 directory.

Running the PE in QEMU, it works.

#196257 Techware Uninfector

Posted by pscEx on 10 November 2015 - 07:45 PM in Security

Sorry for the late answer. I have been one week at my daughter's family.

My test:

Built a Win7PE CD with the fresh (from reboot pro) downloaded version 0.1.1.8

Booted a historical "MBR" system and started uninfector.

First it downloaded the latest app /date from "home".

The three scans XP-32, XP-64 and Win7-32 run without error messages.

I got a log about really ramaining fragments of some malware deleted.

Second test: On a UEFI Lenovo:

Win10-64: Scan ok. Log about removed pocci. I do not want to judge whether pocci is malware or not. But Lenovo delivers with their OS. And there is a rumor that also Win10 includes it. Maybe such semi-malware in question could be in/excluded in config.ini.

Big question what to do when I want restore pocci? Where is it quarantained?

When it is inside the PE, next boot it is lost.

Sorry, I could not test win7-64 on this system, because my PE does not have the necessary Lenovo network driver (something to do for me ...)

Overall I never saw the mentioned autoit error reported.

#196195 Techware Uninfector

Posted by pscEx on 31 October 2015 - 01:35 PM in Security

Imagine:

You want to repair an infected system, where no networking is possible (maybe because of the virus).

Created Win7PE CD with uninfector folder containing latest files:

  • Uninfector.exe 0.1.1.1
  • Uninfector.defs 0.1.1.1
  • config.ini:
    [Techware Uninfector Settings]
    UpdateDefs=N
    UpdateExe=N

As far as I understood, should the booted Win7PE CD use the Uninfector.defs "next Uninfector.exe" and start a scan or show the selection menu resp.

But that does not happen: Starting Uninfector.exe shows no reaction.

So an infected system w/o working network currently cannot be repaired.

Peter

#196189 Techware Uninfector

Posted by pscEx on 31 October 2015 - 09:05 AM in Security

I agree.

But the issue is then still:

With "UpdateDefs=N" and an actual defs near the exe, no scan is made.

#196184 Techware Uninfector

Posted by pscEx on 30 October 2015 - 11:38 PM in Security

I think that we do not understand us completelly.

Let me give a table how it could work in my opinion:

  • Uninfector.Defs not present in the script directory (near Uninfector.exe)
    • "UpdateDefs=Y" > download to %temp%, scan and delete after scan
    • "UpdateDefs=N" > automagically do as if "UpdateDefs=Y"
  • Uninfector.Defs present in the script directory (near Uninfector.exe)
    • "UpdateDefs=Y" > download to %temp%, scan and delete after scan
    • "UpdateDefs=N" > Copy from script directory to %temp%, scan and delete the copy after scan.

Peter

#196169 Techware Uninfector

Posted by pscEx on 30 October 2015 - 12:04 PM in Security

My test:

I created a Win7PE CD containing uninfector exe/defs 0.1.0.7 as downloaded from reboot.pro.

config.ini:

[Techware Uninfector Settings]
UpdateDefs=Y
UpdateExe=Y

I booted from this CD and run Uninfector:

It downloaded Uninfector.exe 0.1.0.9 (telling by dialog) and Uninfector.defs 0.1.0.9 (silently).

The downloaded .exe overwrote the current older version in the app directory, the .defs did not.

Scan was ok.

Test: Change config.ini "UpdateDefs=N" and started Uninfector (now 0.1.0.9) again. Nothing happened. IMO the Uninfector.defs of the app directory should have been used and a scan been started.

#196130 Techware Uninfector

Posted by pscEx on 28 October 2015 - 11:32 AM in Security

I actually plan to have a Message that pops up once it finishes to let the user know it is finished.  If there is a need to restart it will give the option to Restart Now or Later.  As well as I will create an Unattended command line option to suppress any messages from being displayed... unless it is an error. I might also have a silent switch to completely hide progress.

IMO commandline options are not very recommandable. They need a couple of shortcuts created during build of the PE.

I would prefer to put the options into config.ini, e.g.:

[Techware Uninfector Settings]
Unattended=Y
PopUpOnFinish=Y
;Log=ON
Log=ON_ISSUE
;Log=OFF

Peter

For PE builds it would be best to ask the Download questions to the user during WinPE building in the Winbuilder gui or plugin somehow.  Then create the Config.ini accordingly.

I already do so, and I will now implement the Config.ini logic into my plugin.
