#196110 Techware Uninfector

Posted by pscEx on 27 October 2015 - 11:28 AM in Security

My two cents: Booting from Win7pe CD, it scans well xp-32, xp-64, win7-32 as already before.

One glitch:

For the second (and third) scan the "Download" dialog appeared again. I thought that latest data are already in the PE and said "No download".

Result: Error about missing uninfector database.

Suggestion:

Running in PE you should not delete anything after scan. Propably within some minutes nothing will change, and on next start of the PE Uninfector.defs is by design not present.

A plain, normal .ini is too simple and you need a .xml for that? :dubbio:

INI is DOS time, xml is state of the art.

I do not see advantages.

#195993 Techware Uninfector

Posted by pscEx on 20 October 2015 - 03:31 PM in Security

May I do a suggestion:

Put the virus handling definitions into Uninfector.def, as scheduled.

Maybe (or sure) there are different startup options for Uninfector:

  • Load/ignore latest Uninfector.exe
  • Load/ignore latest Uninfector.def
  • Delete/quarantaine suspicious contents
  • etc.

To handle these options with startup switches, can be a huge work for the script writer, because all the different shortcuts with the different startup switches must be provided.

It would be good to have an Uninfector.xml file passing all the user options to Uninfector.exe. Creating the xml is no problem for WinBuilder (Not only 2015.??.??, but also for versions below the still used 80 / 82 / 8?)

#195988 Techware Uninfector

Posted by pscEx on 20 October 2015 - 08:55 AM in Security

When booting Win7PE ISO in VirtualBox, Uninfector 9.2 scanns the PE.

When booting from WIN7PE CD on real hardware, Uninfector shows correctly the three systemes XP-32, XP-64 and Win7-32.

It scanns any choice without remarkable issues.

File Name: Uninfector
File Submitter: pscEx
File Submitted: 13 Oct 2015
File Updated: 03 Nov 2015
File Category: Plugins

This plugin adds Siginet's Uninfector to the PE
Optionally can be choosen, whether at every build the actual Uninfector.exe is downloaded from ther reboot.pro download center, and whether Uninfector.defs is added to the build.
Run time download of Uninfector.defs and uninfector.exe can be controlled by the config.ini file

The plugin needs WinBuilder 2015.10.13

#195903 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 13 October 2015 - 01:22 PM in Development

A new version is uploaded.

What's New in Version 2015.10.13
  • Added optional ability to load special plugin's app on every build (For beta tests with rapidly changing apps)

This is done especially for testing Siginets Uninfector.

Because this change is not relevant for normal users, there is no message of WinBuilder about a newer version.

Existing plugins do not have the property "ForceDownload" and are therefore fully unaffected.

#195897 [BETA] Techware Uninfector (Clean Infected areas of PC in WinPE or Windows)

Posted by pscEx on 13 October 2015 - 09:06 AM in Downloads

How about this:

http://techware.net/...eUninfector.zip

I'll upload the same zip file I submit on the forums to this location specifically for the plugin. ;)

This double work is not longer necessary.

I managed to download from reboot.pro from inside the plugin.

What type of links can Winbuilder download the latest version from? I have my own hosting. So I can go ahead and make sure it's uploaded at a working link for the plugin. ;)

The latest version can always be downloaded here for the time being:

http://Techware.net/.../Uninfector.exe

And Definitions:

http://Techware.net/.../Uninfector.ini

The external link is ok. But I have some timing issues. The .exe is not yet completelly downloaded when winbuilder is statring to copy it. Can you offer uninfector.zip?

#195858 [BETA] Techware Uninfector (Clean Infected areas of PC in WinPE or Windows)

Posted by pscEx on 12 October 2015 - 08:41 AM in Downloads

OK... it sounds like I have a flaw in the drive selection code. I'll work on fixing that tomorrow. I was busy all day implementing the Quarantine code. (It was a little more difficult to implement then I originally thought it would be lol!)

Yes it only scans the registry at the moment. It does very little with files. The registry is the most important stuff. Especially from within WinPE. Once the registry items are removed the files can no longer harm the system. For now I recommend running adwcleaner or malwarebytes after my program to clean up the files left behind.

I've also made some code changes to the version I am working on that messes up some portions of the latest definition file that is online when used with the version of Uninfector.exe that is uploaded on the thread here. It has been optimized for the next version I am going to release. I was going to release the current version I have but after reading the latest bug I think I need to code on it a little more tomorrow.

If anyone wants to test the version I wrote today you can get it here:
http://Techware.net/.../Uninfector.exe

Latest Definitions file if you are not using internet is here:
http://Techware.net/.../Uninfector.ini

This version works fine in a running Windows OS. But unless I accidentally fixed the WinPE bug that has been found it won't be of much use in WinPE at the moment. ;)

For tests, when Uninfector is running on a PE made by one of my projects, you can compare your drive detection with %Temp%\hostInfo.ini.

Spoiler

Can you make sure that "always" (during beta phase) the latest uninfector is located at the above link?

#195847 [BETA] Techware Uninfector (Clean Infected areas of PC in WinPE or Windows)

Posted by pscEx on 11 October 2015 - 04:19 PM in Downloads

I had similar experience like Wimb.

I booted from Win7PE CD. The host has 2 HDDs with 8 volumes, three of them containing a Windows OS: XP_32, XP_64, Win7_32.

The selection dialog appeared, showing the three systems correctly.

The dialog did not disappear neither after making a choice, nor after clicking the Abort button.

Taskmanager showed Uninfector running, but no change in memory, cpu load. I did not have the feeling that Uninfector did something reasonable.

After some minutes I killed Uninfector.

@Siginet:

Common reply to your last posts, w/o quoting single items.

First: Have in mind, that I tested the PE in a VM, so the PE was the only OS!

%TEMP%: Uninfector.ini was there during run of Uninfector.exe. After that it was deleted >> everything is ok with internet access, download etc.

hostInfo.ini:

[PEInfo]
System32=X:\windows\system32\
Version=6.1
HiveSystem=X:\windows\system32\config\system
HiveSoftware=X:\windows\system32\config\software
HiveUser=X:\windows\system32\config\default

[HostInfo]
HiveSystem_1=X:\Windows\System32\config\system
HiveSoftware_1=X:\Windows\System32\config\software
HiveUser_1=X:\Windows\System32\config\default
System32_1=X:\Windows\System32\
Version_1=6.1
IsSystem_1=1
hostCount=1

When running in a VM, Uninfector should not ignore WinPE. So you have an easy possibility to test: Just infect your running PE! In every case there is no danger to damage the actual PC's OS.

If you need, I have (in Delphi) a module, which lets the running app detect whether it runs live or in a VM. But I think that HostCount = 1 is sufficient.

Customisation:

WinBuilder offers a CONFIG task, where you can define some properties for the plugin:

Uninfect.gif

Here download options etc can be added.

#195826 [BETA] Techware Uninfector (Clean Infected areas of PC in WinPE or Windows)

Posted by pscEx on 10 October 2015 - 03:52 PM in Downloads

Actually it auto finds the Windows Registry files for you. First it checks if it is running in Winpe or Windows. Then it checks if there is multiple drives with hives. If it finds multiple drives it asks which drive you want to use. If it only finds one valid windows hive then it automatically uses that hive. It never scans the winpe hive except to detect if it is running in winpe.

Also... if it is launched in windows and it detects any other partitions with a windows hive it will also ask which drive you want to scan. So it will also be useful for those of us who like to pull a customers drive out and plug it into our own workstation to scan it. ;-)

I want it to be as universal as possible.

As requested by Wonka I will also give users the capability to select if they want the Uninfector.exe to auto update itself as well as if they want to allow it to auto update its defs. ;-) Eventually I want to also have an option to auto submit suspicious areas to a database I'll build online for those who would like to help build a database for cleaning up systems.

I am almost finished implementing the quarantine system. For now Quarantine will just be restore all until I find time to build a guide to allow users to select what they want to restore. But users could also easily remove files from the Quarantine folder if they know they do not want to restore them.

#195821 [BETA] Techware Uninfector (Clean Infected areas of PC in WinPE or Windows)

Posted by pscEx on 10 October 2015 - 03:45 PM in Downloads

I wrote a Uninfector plugin for WinBuilder Win7PE.

Currently Uninfector.exe from the first post is attached to the plugin, because WinBuilder cannot (yet) download from URLs like

http://reboot.pro/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=15744

I started Win7PE in VirtualBox and run Uninfector.

There was nothing visible, but about a minute I saw Uninfector in the task manager with 99% CPU load.

A file Uninfector_Unknown.log was created, containing:

[Suspicious Areas]
FOUND - AppInit_DLLs=SPEHook.dll

[Unknown-> Services]
FBWF=ignore
Ramdisk=ignore
sacdrv=ignore
sacsvr=ignore
WimFsf=ignore

I could not detect a connection to the internet, and also did not find a Uninfector.ini file in the application directory.

#195815 [BETA] Techware Uninfector (Clean Infected areas of PC in WinPE or Windows)

Posted by pscEx on 10 October 2015 - 09:29 AM in Downloads

Just a technical question:

When the program is started from WINPE, which volume(s) is / are checked? Is there a startup switch to define?

Additional: Usually the drive letters WINPE sees, are different from the "live" system.

I'm working on writing the plugin, but I'll not test the program working, until I'm sure that it will work ONLY on the volume I want.
Currently I have no additional drive to make a complete HDDs backup.

#195341 Windows PE and Internal Windows Interdependecy for Internet Connection?

Posted by pscEx on 12 September 2015 - 02:30 PM in Windows PE

Most Winbuilder 8x build XP PEs grab some files from the host like internatioal settings or drivers.
Corrupt files of the host are of course also corrupt in the PE.
A corrupt network componen will disturb Internet connect in the internal system as well as in the PE.
For that reason in my first reply I asked for details.

Unfortunatelly successles.

#195281 Windows PE and Internal Windows Interdependecy for Internet Connection?

Posted by pscEx on 10 September 2015 - 04:22 PM in Windows PE

Internet connection is just a question of some hardware including necessary drivers.

Of course the connection can be disturbed / prohibited by firewall rules etc. described in the OS.

Linux live runs well because it does not take care of underlying M$ OSs on the host.

With LiveXP CDs this is a bit more complicated.

Theoretically should a LiveXP system be as self supporting as a Live Linux.

But depending on the LiveCD producing application, it may be possible that some informations of the host OS are used.

Can you still rebuild your LiveXP CD error free? If yes, tell us the way. Maybe we can find the bad boy iside building the PE.

When I enter 911cd, I get a message that this site contains unwanted software.

A real warning by an unknown cloud-god?

Or a false positive by my system?

Windows Firewall

Avast personal antivir

Firefox 40.0.2 with plugins

#195154 Windows 7 gets new updates to spy as much as Windows 10

Posted by pscEx on 03 September 2015 - 11:09 AM in IT World News

Back to the primary issue :smart:

Appearently M$ performs 'spying', but that's just an action.

Can anybody tell me, which data M$ is collecting?

I do not mind when they record hardware configuration, IP number etc. or even whether ice-age Win 2000 is installed anywhere in my PC.

But real (illegal) spying for me begins e.g. with information about "Linux installed on a different partition".

Or reading browser history, or ...

#195078 Windows 7 gets new updates to spy as much as Windows 10

Posted by pscEx on 01 September 2015 - 02:01 PM in IT World News

I'm not sure currently, whether all my data collected at M$ (og Google, or ...) bring real harm for me.

I sometimes find that funny.

Example: Some weeks ago i googled a bit for new toner for my Konika-Minolta printer, and finally bought a set after some days.

When I'm now browsing in any of the "recording" sites like google, amazon etc. I get popup ads about Konika-Minolta toner.

Are the site managers so stupid?

They do not realize, that I do not need any more toner after I bought one set?

On the other hand: They do not try to offer me a "better" printer or something else. They now know my model and could offer a "superfragilisticexpliallegotic" one.

When after one year, the question of toner may be actual again, there is surelly no popup about that.

So I treate all this spying carefully observing, but really relaxed.

#195077 Windows 10 as freeware for home users

Posted by pscEx on 01 September 2015 - 01:39 PM in Windows 10

they would have to pay me to use W10, or W8/8.1, I dont care for W7 much either really. XP, XPx64, XPE, & POS2009 all work great for my M$ needs.

I fully agree to your opinion. I personally have XP x86 for development and daily use like e-mail., skype, word (Office 2002) documents etc.

But I more and more get to know that many potent manufactorers accept the M$ strategy.

E.g new Oracle java and virtualbox versions complain during installation that it might give troubles on my ice-age host software.

#194916 The install.esd file and installation DVD

Posted by pscEx on 23 August 2015 - 04:37 PM in Windows 8

I did not yet make deeper studies about *.esd, but let me tell here my humble opinion:

I logically do not understand the background of this topic.

IMHO the only technical reason to have *.esd files on the DVD, is the capacity of the DVD ( and maybe some M$ specials to make ??? more difficult).

When the whole (WIM) ISO fits on one DVD, why compressing something to ESD?

Did somebody compare the installation time with WIM vs ESD?

#194601 Windows 10 - my upgrade experience

Posted by pscEx on 11 August 2015 - 12:34 PM in Windows 10

@pscEx
Maybe try using the following bcdedit command -

bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy
This assumes the Windows 10 entry is the default menu entry - adjust and use a GUID value as required. Applying this setting will hopefully use the Windows Vista/7 style boot menu instead of the metro style menu. Haven't actually tested this myself as I use self contained BCD stores for each OS.

Regards,

Misty

@misty: First: Many thanks, I'll try this.

But second: Maybe that you already know that I am a programmer with a lot of experience in different high and low level languages, including the corresponding APIs.

But my knowledge about many of Billy the Door's command line tools is like the knowledge of (German phrase translated) "Cow's knowledge about sunday".

What happens, when this command fails?

Can I back up / copy some BCDxxx (before!), and restore when necessary?

Now I have nearly the same like before, with the exception that there is Win 10 instead of 8.1. The Windows boot manager shows that accordingly without that I did anything.

I have to modify:

Boot:

  • Ubuntu menu > choose "Windows Boot Manager"
  • The Win10 icon appears, after some seconds the Win10 Menu comes up with the choice Win10 / Win7
    1. Choose Win10 > Win10 starts up directly
    2. Choose Win7: > Appearently a reboot, then Ubunto boot menu comes up again
      • choose "Windows Boot Manager" or wait for time out > Win7 starts up

Some Vodoo?

#194396 Windows 10 - my upgrade experience

Posted by pscEx on 07 August 2015 - 09:12 AM in Windows 10

Let me add my two cents:

Startup System:

Host: Lenovo S540, delivered with 8.1. Pro German.

I made the system partition smaller,

created new partitions and added Win7 SP1 (valid activated) and Mint 17.

Now the host boots with the Linux boot menu giving the choice for Mint and Windows Boot Manager, which, when choosen, offeres Win 7 and Win 8.1

Test:

Tried successles, to use the Media Creator Tool created ISO to install over the 8.1 partition. The triels included booting from ISO, booting from 8.1 and using the ISO.

Success:

Go the "official" way, using the window icon in the running 8.1 icon tray.

  • Reserve
  • Download
  • Upgrade

Now I have nearly the same like before, with the exception that there is Win 10 instead of 8.1. The Windows boot manager shows that accordingly without that I did anything.

BTW: The upgrade automagically installed German.

Maybe this is important:

Before upgrade, I installed the new S540 BIOS which, following description, has something for windows 10.

I switched my Avast completelly off during the upgrade task.

But I did not try, because of lack of knowledge.

I nowhere found until now a correlation between GUID and objects.

Maybe misty with deeper BCD knowledge can help.

#193986 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 26 July 2015 - 05:05 PM in Development

A new version is uploaded.

What's New in Version 2015.07.24

  • Corrected startup for different host OS and architecture
  • Some enhancements with autoupdate on different hosts

This fixes hopefully the last time reported issues.

Tested with:

XP SP3 32 and 64 bit

Win7 32 and 64 bit

Linux Mint Cinnamon 64 bit

Members can do me a favoure and test the upgrade mechanism.

Instead downloading the latest version, download manually http://winbuilder.ex..._2015.07.16.zip

This is practically the same file like the latest upload, but has a different version number.

Unpack this "Old" version into an empty directory and start winbuilder (winbuilder.exe in WIN systems, winbuilder.jar in others).

Follow the instructions to upgrade.

The process should lead you finally to the latest winbuilder (2015.07.24) and build the PE successfully.

If not, please report the details.

Are there any informations, how to get the win10cd contents, and install without to "destroy" the running win7/8 system?

BTW: A patch to running XP to let upgrade to win10 would be an valuable hack!

But launch4j, which is building winbuilder.exe, can only process one attached jre.

Hi friends!

I'm feeling rather nervous.

I do not know how Billy The Door takes rabbits out of his magic hat.

I'm in doubt whether anywhen my current win7-64, win7-32 or win8.1 installations greet me with "Hi, I'm #10!"

(I think, my still working XP should be out of question.)

Is there a true way that I can prohibit such unwanted upgrades before they appear?

I found already some "KB ##" which should be dangerous. But what to do with that knowledge?

To explain my situation a bit more:

Some more detail: I usually do all my work (mails, development, amazon, google, ...) from XP.

But for tests I sometimes boot into win7-32, win7-64, win81, mint, ...

And then it is already boring, when Billy The Door transfers and installes the updates of the last 2 month ...

#193153 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 13 June 2015 - 03:27 PM in Development

New version is uploaded!

What's New in Version 2015.06.12

  • BUILD CORE, WIM, ISO now fully independent from each other.
  • Add cached files collections, rather than expanding from WIM on every build. This brings on my old XP machine a build from more than 6 minutes downto 2:30 minutes.
  • Add Win7pe function "Update.java" which uses external file "update.ini" to make optional necessary Win7Pe settings file adaptions on WinBuilder update.

You can now modify your PE by e.g.:

(Thought more for developers than standard users!)

  • BUILD CORE
  • Add / change / remove something in <BaseDir>\output\wim-boot
  • BUILD WIM
  • Add / change / remove something in <BaseDir>\output\bootdisk
  • BUILD ISO

The idea of "Cached files" is also not new. In WinBuilder 8x there are some projects with "Stored WIMs".
The difference is that the "Stored WIMs" are complete and need some GB space per source CD.
The here used method caches only the "Standard PE" files, which needs only about 350 mb per source CD.
The other files (e.g. in plugins) are still extracted actually from the WIMs.

Some logs showing the timing:

Standard build:

Cached build:

#192975 Win PE hangs at startup of easyDriveLetter

Posted by pscEx on 03 June 2015 - 04:42 PM in Support

Primarily easyDriveLetter was written to give "known" letters to the HDs, using paraglider's RemapDrives tool.

Later easyDriveLetter has been extended to "... that someone may not want to have the Y: drive letter"

Later it has been extended to install drivers.

Later it has been extended to start applications.

Later ...

You are right, I should think about renaming, but to what?

To make clear: easyDriveLetter is not part of WinBuilder 20xx. It is included in my implementation of building a Win7PE.

#192968 Win PE hangs at startup of easyDriveLetter

Posted by pscEx on 03 June 2015 - 03:08 PM in Support

Hi,

I downloaded WinBuilder 2015 yesterday and created a boot disk as described in the tutorials. This all worked out very well - thank for the great tool! I added 7ZipPortable and CPUZ as plugins.

Now after burning the ISO on a CD-ROM and booting from there, Win PE starts to boot as expected, but then hangs with the following screen:

2015_05_31_15_43_16.jpg

There is nothing I can do in this situation, there is no mouse pointer on the screen and pressing any keys on the keyboard (i tried at least ESC, Space, Enter, Backspace, Alt + F4) don't do the trick. Any idea what to do?

There are two harddisks in my computer, but they may both be broken (which is why I try to run Win PE). Could there be an issue with easyDriveLetter if not any drive was found?

Thanks and cheers,

dmr

I do not know why there is no reaction on pressing the "return" key. On the other hand, I sometimes have to press it twice, in very seldom cases even three times.

The "Display Problem" message is a fault of mine. This message appears also on other troubles (fixed).

The question concerning your problematic harddisks: I do not know. Of course I cannot reproduce your HW configuration. But I made a software change to tell the user something about PE booting.

  • Download the new WinBuilder version and unzip into your existing WinBuilder directory (<BaseDir>)
  • Delete <BaseDir>\lib\corefiles\Win7PE.*
  • Start WinBuilder
  • Config core win7pe
  • Set "Boot Debug" to True and click "Save Changes" at bottom.

Build the PE and run it. During boot easyDriveLetter tells something about what it is doing.

Maybe here we get an error report.

You can duplicate the log output to winbuilder.log by the

Command FILELOG ON (OFF).

To continue, you have still to "Click Return". I hope, only one times.

BTW: Wonko is a bit wrong. easyDriveLetter.exe is fundamental for this PE and cannot be omitted. Also easyDriveLetter.ini must not be changed.

BTW2: You should set "Boot Debug" to "False" when the issue is solved.

Posted by pscEx on 01 June 2015 - 09:21 AM in Requests

My answers in bold inside the quote

Hi

been testing the last version on Winbuilder 2015...

When I use the command "download list" I only obtain 2 projects

    1. win7_en_x86

    2. win8_en_x86_sp1

These are source CDs, not projects. THis is a little favour to the user, because M$ hides the URLs where to download source CDs.

?whats up with 64 bits projects

Like WinBuilder 0.8x was, is WinBuilder 20xx a tool to create some usable application, usually a PE.

The authors of WinBuilder just deliver an example project, formerly "Standard" (XP x86), now Win7PE (x86).

Other projects can be offerred by other authors.

?when projects upgraded from old winbuilder 0.8x will be available

As soon as a user wrotes a converting tool.

Also when using "install list" only got ~20 plug-ins

?whay so few... ?when can we get more

These plugins are examples or favorites of the author.

Every developer can write and deliver new plugins. See http://reboot.pro/to...te-own-plugins/

also want to 2 alias:

    Projects = download

    Plugins  = install

I do not understand. please explain.

Thx, ZEE

#192858 ProduKey

Posted by pscEx on 27 May 2015 - 02:55 PM in Development

I knew that :smiling9: as it would be an additional "open side for development", the presence of it as an optional plugin, with a very minimal \Nirsoift\nirsoft.nlp file would allow a lot of non-exactly-developers (i.e. final users) to finely customize their Winbuilder created build in a rather easy manner, expecially nowadays that the common media for a PE is not anymore a CD/DVD (in the sense of Read Only).

I have had the opininion that you read everything in this forum.

But one topic you appearently misssed: "How To Add Custom Folders"

Copying the complete Nirsoft Launcher Folder to <basedir>\lib\user_cd brings as result in the PE:

nirsoftlauncher.jpg

Contents of this folder is fully in the user's responsibility and not controlled / distributed by WinBuilder.

Given the evolution of Winbuilder in the past, I presume that next release will use a Registry format and hives  for the settings files .

One of your great-ancestors said:

Si tacuisses, philosophus mansisses.

WinBuilder is designed to work on "every" OS.

#192711 WinBuilder 2015 HowTo Add DriverPacks

Posted by pscEx on 17 May 2015 - 04:42 PM in Development

Very true. I found a trick to solve that issue. Usually I look around Maven Central to see if someone else has compiled the code into a library: http://search.maven.org

On the case for torrent clients, I found ttorrent (Apache license) available there: http://search.maven....h|ga|1|ttorrent

Then, around github I found this source code file with a practical example of how to use ttorrent to download some files: https://github.com/s...mpleClient.java

Does this help?

Primarily it helped a bit. I downloaded the jar and modified the example for my purposes.

But when running it gave a "class not found" in a logging function.

Secondary it helped a lot:

I learned to build a jar with maven in netbeans. And as a result: All is done from the torrent URL

I am clearly missing something , but cannot a command line bittorrent client be used from the 2015 Winbuilder?

When you consider that WinBuilder runs not only from M$ OS, but also from ??X and mac, to find a suited command line is not so easy.

I would be glad when you offer a solution suited for all the host OSs.

Currently I'm testing several java *.jar libraries. But as said WinBuilder cannot (yet) ...

Peter

@all: Do you know any ?????.jar which I can add to the WinBuilder java libraries and which performs a torrent client?

There are some solutions offerred, but they all have to be compiled under *X with tools I as Billie's fan dependent do not know.

#192672 WinBuilder 2015 HowTo Add DriverPacks

Posted by pscEx on 16 May 2015 - 04:07 PM in Development

REMARK: The DriverPacks plugin is only a wrapper which helps to transfer drivers to CustomDrivers.
When it has done ii's work, it inaactivates itself with CONFIG CORE DRIVERPACKS.

But the user can activate again, in order to add new packs.

Sorry, Winbuilder cannot (yet) download the driverpacks archives, wich are currently offerred as torrents.

So you must do some manual work:

  • Create a folder <basedir>lib\driverpacks and copy all the needed driverpacks (downloaded by your torrent client) into it.
    That may look like:
    driverpacksDir.jpg
  • Edit the (factory provided) configuration file <basedir>\lib\corefiles\DriverPacks.extra.xml to provide the single drivers you need.
Most keys are self-explaining. Maybe "Action" needs some explanation
    • BootInstall: Install during PE boot
    • CopyOnly: Just provide the driver in x:\Drivers\

  • Example:
    driverpacksxml.jpg

During build winbuilder will first move the selected drivers from driverpacks into the "drivers" directory, and then use the custom driver mechanism to add the drivers to the PE

Addendum:

In WinBuilder version above 2015.05.20 the pack can be downloaded using torrent protocoll.

Just add the torrent url in DriverPacks.extra.xml (with your actual data) like

http://driverpacks.n...torrent

The pack name then is not necessary. It is taken from the torrent, and written into the extra.xml file.

#192632 Winbuilder 2015 HowTo create own plugins

Posted by pscEx on 14 May 2015 - 03:51 PM in Development

When designing the new winbuilder we wanted to avoid one issue: When you download a new version, all current settings are reset to factory settings. The user must redefine all settings.

We use following solution:

The actual settings are a copy of the downloaded settings. The copy resides in <basedir>\lib\corefiles.
When installing a new version, the copy is not changed. So you hold your actual settings.

To see your changes, look at <basedir>\lib\corefiles\xxx.xml

Peter

EDIT: Sorry, This is for core components. I'm going to look for plugins

#192628 WinBuilder 2015 HowTo Add Custom Folders

Posted by pscEx on 14 May 2015 - 01:09 PM in Development

Some users want to add complete applications, packages data, etc. to the PE without writing new plugins.

An example may be a collection of SysInternals applications or the Depends tool.

These additions might be inside the WIM (running in RAM) or on the CD.

To add them is very easy:

  • Create a folder <BaseDir>\lib\user_cd and / or <BaseDir>\lib\user_ram
  • Put the applications you want into the according folder, depending on they should run from WIM or from CD.

During build these folders are copied to the target, and shortcuts to them are added on the desktop: A CD and a RAM icon.

user_folder.jpg

When anywhen you do not want to add an user folder to a particular build, just create an empty file "nocopy" in this folder.

Next build you can remove "nocopy" and the folder is added again.

Thanks to -= mbr @mbr =- for suggestion!

#192554 WinBuilder 2015 HowTo Add Custom Drivers

Posted by pscEx on 12 May 2015 - 12:21 PM in Development

You need a classic driver, with *.inf file and usually one *.sys and none up to several *.dll files. A setup file(*.exe or *.msi) will not work.

This driver files package must be in a folder, having the name of the *.inf file without the .inf extention.

Copy this folder into the <BaseDir>\lib\drivers\x86\win7 directory (create if not existant).

Important: You must flag that this driver is for installation.

Add an empty file <the driver's inf file>.install into the driver folder.

That may look like this:

CustomDriver.jpg

The build will copy the package into <BaseDir>\output\wim-boot\drivers directory.

During boot of the PE the driver will be installed.

When for some reason you do not want to add a driver, just delete the flag .install file.

Create it again when you want to continue using the driver.

The "was installed" only tells that the functionality for adding the app to the PE is activated.

It does not give a statement above the physical availability of the app.

There are three types of plugins. The author decides which one is used:

  1. The runnable application is contained in the plugin. Completed at install.
  2. The runnable application is downloaded during install. Completed at install.
  3. The runnable application must be placed by the user into the plugins directory. User must do something to complete the install.

As seen above in the quote, during installation of ClamWin Winbuilder tells you to complete #3.

#192343 Winbuilder 2015 HowTo create own plugins

Two items are wrong.

First is my fault and forgotten in documentation and template.

When you want to deliver an attached application, you must define
True

Template and docu are already changed.

The second is:

You use the standard
$Default
. $default will bring a shortcut to WinDirStat.exe.
But the exe is really WinDirStatPortable.exe. So you must define:

WinDirStatPortable.exe

After doing the changes (in the .zip!), delete downloads\cache\600-settings.xml and INSTALL again
There will be no windirstat file under plugins. The app is added during build directly from plugin_APP.zip to the target.

You will get an error message, if you do not have the plugin certified. Certification will be automatically done, when you have a developer key in the $BaseDir. I'll PM you one.

#192283 WinBuilder 2015 CLI

Posted by pscEx on 30 April 2015 - 09:33 AM in Development

The command history and auto complete feature would have to be implemented but I doubt we'd have resources to do so.

I already have the history running and committed to the SVN.

Does auto complete make much sence when during a session the user only types very few commands?

While trying to configure the project it would be great that there is something like:

config core list (similar to install list)

to list all available core plugins. So I must navigate into the folder to see what is available.

This should be possible. Peter, what do you think?

Aye Aye, Sir!

#192224 WinBuilder 2015 Project Example

Posted by pscEx on 29 April 2015 - 09:04 AM in Development

As example i don't see any bsh file in the 7-Zip package!?

There is an issue with the minus in the name 7-zip.

I removed the minus from the plugin name.

delete the downloads\cache folder and install the package again.

The bsh file you find in downloads\549-7ZipPortable\main.bsh

  • IMPORTANT: Close open editors with $BaseDir$\downloads\
-
files and save then on close.
  • IMPORTANT: Zip the contents of the $BaseDir$\downloads\
-
directory into $BaseDir$\downloads\
-
.zip

Dou you also have the file:

D:\winbuilder_2015.03.07\downloads\600-WinDirStat.zip?

#192187 Winbuilder 2015 HowTo create own plugins

The INSTALL list shows only plugins available on reboot.pro download area.

When you create a new local plugin like described above, it is of course not on reboot.pro and therefore not in the list.

Just command INSTALL <myplugin>, and next build will include the new plugin (provided it is error-free).

The log text looks like this:
