#191797 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 01 April 2015 - 03:11 PM in Development

I have a software which reques it. I want to make an minimal image for Virtual Box. I'll try other readers. My software has a certificaton. I don't know if others support it.

Is it possible to add http://reboot.pro/to...dobe-reader-xi/? How?

It is not possible to add a script for the deprecated WinBuilder 08x to the new WinBuilder 20xx.

I'll have a look into the old script and will see what is possible.

In the mean time maybe you try my new SumatraPDF plugin. The process of upload may be finished in about one hour.

#191780 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 01 April 2015 - 08:35 AM in Development

I do not recommend to add acrobat. It is about 120 mb in size. Use Sumatra or PDF XChange Viewer instead.

To write your own scripts, see the instructions at http://reboot.pro/to...te-own-plugins/

To add PDFs, you can

  • either write a script just copying them to the build and (optional) having shortcuts (when *.pdf is defined in registry HKLM\Classes).
  • or copy them to a subfolder of <basedir>\lib\Develop, e.g. C:\WinBuilder\lib\Develop\PDF

When Develop contains the empty flag file "docopy", everything under Develop is copied to the PE. In this way you can add applications to the PE bypassing the build functionality. For script development I use this mechanism e.g. to have Depends.exe and ServiWin.exe .

Peter

BTW: I'll see to find some time and write a portable PDF plugin.

#191244 "Request"

Posted by pscEx on 10 March 2015 - 06:01 PM in Site feedback

This post:

You know what ? Frell it, I'm just gonna "juggle" those CD's.

But if someone would provide\point to a tutorial and a WinBuilder (preferably GUI one) version, that it works with, and a step by step (♪ oh, baby ♪) tutorial for making plugins, I would appreciate, and (probably) use it when I have more time.

Thank you all, for (trying to) help.

gave me the impulse to react here.

For those who do not know me: I'm one of the first members of this forum, joined 14 Jul 2006.

Since that time I'm besides Nuno co-developer of the Winbuilder (delphi edition).

When in 2013 the new Winbuilder 20?? was published, I was main composer.

The time I spent to develop WinBuilder, has been nearly "full time", because I was retired and had no more professional intentions.

And I did not do this work in order to earn money.

Since that time besides two 5 Euro / 10 Euro donations I did dot get any money for my work.

So as a result: I do not feel well, when somebody demands for additions for something he got for free.

He should try to develop the wanted results with the community.

#191182 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 07 March 2015 - 02:24 PM in Development

Uploaded version 2015-03-07

What's New in Version 2015.03.07

  • Introduced test new auto-upgrade functionality

When WinBuilder is run for the first time of a day, some information are downloaded about latest version.

When the latest version is smaller than the actual running version, WinBuilder gives a message about that, and suggests the command "UPGRADE".

When you execute the upgrade, the latest vesrion is downloaded, stored and started.

No worries: The user defined items like wallpaper, shortcuts, plugins etc. are NOT reset to factory setting.

Please report about experience with the upgrade function.

For those who are curious: The downloaded information also points (dynamically) to a valid Win7 source CD which can be downloaded. As known, M$ does not longer offer the CDs at digitalriver.

#191146 Confused as Hell...

Posted by pscEx on 05 March 2015 - 05:17 PM in Support

You need a very simple PE which only offers two distinct applications.

On the first view this looks very easy to be solved, but on the next view there appeare several MUSTS:

(Just as example!, I did not check whether the apps really need these dependencies):

  • Audio support
  • MSI Installer
  • .Net Framework.
  • ....

So it is not only the question how to add your favoured apps to the PE. The real question is the dependencies.

In your special case I suggest a multiboot CD / UFD using Grub4Dos, to start your needed applications.

When you want to try WinBuilder 2015 (unlike paraglider said, it is now public) I'm ready to help (But I do not know right now whether your intention will work correctly).

#191099 Accessibility

Posted by pscEx on 03 March 2015 - 11:46 AM in Win7PE

Theoretically everywhere in your project.

A good place would be a script which logically deaqls with keyboard or accessibility.

Because I do not know your project, I cannot guess the script.

But be sure that it is between something like

RegHiveLoad,WB-Default,%target_sys%\config\default

and

RegHiveUnLoad,WB-Default

line.

And the line itself should be in this case (many possible syntaxes, but they must fit)

RegWrite,HKLM,0x1,WB-Default\Control Panel\Accessibility\StickyKeys, "Flags"="511"

#190248 Gotcha Data Backup [Plugin]

Posted by pscEx on 31 January 2015 - 11:17 AM in Development

When I download the file from the linked page (http://reboot.pro/fi...ha-data-backup/) I get a ZIP file that does not contain a script. I even changed the extension to .script and it won't work.

It contains

main.bsh

plugin_app.zip

settings.html

settings.xml

What am I doing wrong?

The whole contained contents is the "Script".

WinBuilder 201x will install it into the downloads\540-Gotcha! Data Backup directory.

The known syntax of winbuilder 8x is not used an more.

Instead of "Scripts" there are now "Plugins"

#190173 Winbuilder 2013 Plugin Tutorial?

Posted by pscEx on 28 January 2015 - 02:24 PM in Support

@Siginet

I uploaded the current Winbuilder development snapshoot to http://winbuilder.ex..._2015_01_28.zip.

The attached plugins contain the different types:

  • Attached to plugin: e.g. PiriformCCleanerPortable
  • Downloaded once during install: e.g. HxD
  • To be provided by the user into \plugins: e.g. NVDA

To include a plugin to the build: Command "INSTALL <plugin>"

Unique name fragments are sufficient. Instead of "install 502-FileZillaPortable" you can use "install zilla"

To remove from the build: Just delete %BaseDir%\downloads\<plugin>

Attention: do not delete <plugin>.zip !!

Please watch your PM to get passwords, personal developer keys etc.

#190142 Rufus v1.3.0 has been released

Posted by pscEx on 26 January 2015 - 12:27 PM in USB Drive Format Utilities

What Microsoft does with their OS (and with their support policies) is essentially their business and often it has nothing to do with customer satisfaction or with easing the life of software developers, the point I was trying to make is that until something is in use and in numbers that are not-so-trifling it cannot be properly called "100% retired", of course "not supported anymore by MS" or "in declining use" is perfectly accurate.re-add it than the XP related ones...

I fully agree

I still use XP as my standard system.

I like that XP accepts me as the boss.

Win7 and friends always think that they know better than me, what I want to do.

#190088 Winbuilder 2013 Plugin Tutorial?

Posted by pscEx on 22 January 2015 - 11:18 PM in Support

Is the next Winbuilder going to follow the 2013 plugin rules? Or will we be seeing a new style?

The next WinBuilder will have 2014 rules, like or similar to the description in the "plugin_template", I mentioned above. (There is some compatibility with 2013).

Edit: Sadly I can not see the hidden template. ;) I'm blind... or it is well hidden. ;)

Seems that only a .script developer, but not a developer, can see the hidden posts.

You should PM Nuno and ask for an upgrade to .script developer. As admin I could do this upgrade, but i have the feeling that I'm logically not entitled to do so.

I'd like to begin learning the syntax so I can try chipping in to help with the new method. I'm a big fan of WinBuilder. Always have been. Nuno and many others here have done a lot of awesome work here.

Several month ago Nuno decided to let serious members take part in the development of WinBuilder.

IMO you are a candidate for this. I'll PM you an "how to". Tomorrow, now it's after midnight local time.

#190063 Winbuilder 2013 Plugin Tutorial?

Posted by pscEx on 22 January 2015 - 07:51 AM in Support

I think that you as developer can see the hidden file downloads > winbuilder > plugins > plugin_template.

Sorry, the first version of winbuilder only installs plugins from reboot.pro download.

And a download by WinBuilder is currently not possible because of a server glitch. See here

With the new version of WinBuilder the user can write his own local plugins. Only god (in this case Nuno) knows whether and when it will be published.

#190050 Download section issue

Posted by pscEx on 21 January 2015 - 06:42 PM in Site feedback

Maybe there is a forum's software glitch due to the download section.

The script "LCARS" has been uploaded . Because it came from a new member, it wasn't approved.

After uploading, the author uploaded version 2, also unapproved, of course.

I approved the script.

Now the strange situation:

Clicking on "download", you see

download_double.gif

If you try to download a different item with also multi versions (e.g. multiPE), the download of the latest version immediatelly happens, without the choice dialog.

#190021 Tutorial request

Posted by pscEx on 21 January 2015 - 11:14 AM in Tutorials

Just brainstorming:

I'm rather sure that no tutorial can be written, because IMHO nobody did process MSI files in a project / script before.

There should be (to be developed!) a script which unpacks the MSI and adds files / registry entries etc. to the build, according the contents of the MSI.

Some month ago I tried the "alternate way":

During build:

Copy the MSI setup to the PE

Copy the *.msi file to the PE

In the PE:

Setup MSI

Install the app from *.msi

Result: Trying to setup MSI, brought the error, that this is not possible in a PE :frusty:

Downloading win7pe should be done in several seconds, usually below a minute.

Last time there have been some troubles with the reboot.pro server.

Usually downloading win7pe should not be an issue.

Try again the "auto" command. Do not worry, because you already have the source CD, it will not be re-downloaded. Winbuilder will just start with "download win7pe".

#189359 UEFI + GPT + install Windows 7

Posted by pscEx on 22 December 2014 - 09:08 AM in Boot from USB / Boot anywhere

Maybe it helps to know, how I solved a similar situation with my Lenovo, delivered with Win8.1, booting with UEFI.

It also has no DVD reader.

  • Using Parted Magic, I made the win8 partition smaller and created an additional new one for Win7 x64.
  • I extracted the Win7 CD onto an USB stick (not necessary to have it bootable, no RUFUS etc.).
  • Added a folder "Lenovo" to the stick and copied Lenovo drivers into it. That were proprietary drivers not contained in the Win7 setup. Which are needed, could be found only by try and error:
    • Realtek LAN driver from Lenovo
    • Intel Wireless from Lenovo
  • Depending on your Hardware you need other/additional drivers, maybe a SATA driver, as Wonko said.
  • Booted from 8.1 and ran setup on the stick, choosing to install into the new partition. When setup needs some drivers I pointed to the prepared folder drivers.
  • In the running win7 I downloaded, installed / ran:

Good luck!

#189341 OEM Product Activation - Clearing the Crapware!

Posted by pscEx on 20 December 2014 - 08:50 PM in Tutorials

The above post was reported to admin as spam.

I'm not sure whether this post is spam. Maybe it is a bit "personal advertising"

The member has the same nick name as the site where the post is pointing to.

On the other hand the member does not hide his personality, and can be found at several places under the published links.

The offer is clear: To get official M$ licenses (I hope that they are official, I have no chance to check) for a price much below the M$ price.

My personal situation: Since some time it is allowed in EU to sell an operating system CD w/o a new PC, a lot of OS's are offerred from well known companies, for a price which is much less than at M$.

Some days ago I bought a "DELL win7 x64" for less then 40 €.

I'm rather sure that getting a M$ license in the mentioned URL will give a valid license. (My opinion, no guarantee!)

I suggest that odosta moves the post to "Websites".

#189083 Forign language help needed

Posted by pscEx on 05 December 2014 - 06:34 PM in Development

I'm working on a (win7) PE which follows my old "native" concept. Everything should be only used from the source CD.

That avoids some well known and often used script constructions like "When language is xx, copy xx.files from wim, and import xx.reg into registry; but when language is yy, ..."

My current stage seems to be well.

But I see some items, where I do not know whether they are originally by Billy the Door, or can be avoided by me.

Unfortunatelly I do not have "strange language" OS installed.

So my simple question:

On your PC installation: Do you see something comparable with my screen shoot, or do you see everything in your language?

Here my screen shoot for zh-TW, but I'm sure that this can be expanded to other languages, because it's only an image.

Of course only existing restore points can be restored.

They must be created previously in the well running OS, either manually or by system, e.g. before updates.

IMO recenv restores files and registry entries. They should be architecture independent. But I do not know ...

Recenv can only work when you really have a win7 partition with restore points visible to Win7PE.

Then the name and drive of the partition is visible (and NVDA hearable) in the list. Make your choice in the list and continue.

For a test, you can create a new restorepoint named TEST in your Win7 system, and restore from Win7PE to this restore point.

That's the way I tested, and it did not bring any harm to the running system.

I got the behaviour you explained, when I booted Win7PE in VirtualBox. There is no win7 partition visible, and RecEnv suggests to reboot etc.

Would You redesign The scripts so explorer.exe will not display folders and drives in treewiev mode?

I can not switch it to list and i like standard wiev which exist when user uses Windows 7 operating system which is installed normally.

I hope, that it would not require many coding.

Would You add runscanner with remote regedit link and with The run with run scanner context menu item?

I do not understand standard / tree view mode. Can you explain?

I'll have a look to runscanner. When possible, I'll write a plugin.

It is sad, that recenv can apply previously system image made by previous backup, but system restore point can be only used when You restart Windows so out of The PE with screen reader support.

I cannot confirm that.

My pc has a partition with win7, where I previously set a restore point for the actual content.

To test, I made a Win7PE containing NVDA and recenv.

I wrote the ISO onto an UFD, prepared with rmprepusb / easy2boot and booted from this UFD.

The started recenv showed me the initial GUI, and NVDA explained every line in the recenv window.

Going on, new windows appeared, and NVDA could read and tell them all.

Finally I could restore my win7 to the latest snapshoot.

How to use recenv.exe?

Just start in the running Win7PE <Start button> Programs Recovery Recenv.

You'll get the standard windows recovery GUI.

What you can do here, depends on the saved configurations of your standard boot OS.

#188556 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 15 November 2014 - 06:10 PM in Development

That is not possible by design.
WinBuilder is developed to work platform independent on windows / linux / mac operating systems.

Currently there is no way known to create a bootable USB drive with a platform independent source code.

But you can easily create your UFD:

1: Follow this very good instruction: http://www.easy2boot...sing-rmprepusb/
2: Copy the WinBuilder created ISO <basedir>\output\bootdisk.iso to <UFD drive>\_ISO\WINPE. You may change the root name to something explaining, like SMALL_NVDA_PE.iso
3: Create a text file in <UFD drive>\_ISO\WINPE with the same rooot name, in this example SMALL_NVDA_PE.txt
4: Edit this text file and define the menu line for booting from the ISO: title <display line>. Example title SMALL_NVDA_PE. The display line must not be necessarily the same as the ISO root name.

When you want to replace the ISO, or add a new one, you already have the bootable UFD. Step 1 will not be necessary any more.

Dear developers,

Does somebody of You know about The procedure, which would enable me to restore offline Windows from an restore point?

I mean Windows 7, not WIndows XP.

I have issue, that special tool from Microsoft, which can enable me to restore The system can not be fully run from WIndows PE environment. It will reboot The system and i can not use screen reader to choose an restore point to restore Windows 7.

I know, that XP system can be only restored from commercial tools from Microsoft

MSDaRT.

And i can not find official link to access The download page from Microsoft.

It is sad, that i can not restore Windows 7 because special tool from Microsoft do not allow me to choose The restore point from running WIndows PE environment.

Does somebody of YOu have An advice?

This should be possible with the new WinBilder's "RecEnv" application.

The new WinBuilder is still in development, but there is a "nightly" version available for download at http://winbuilder.ex..._2014_11_14.zip.

I'll send you the password by PM.

A "please": When you have the new WinBuilde version, please send comments, suggestions, etc. to enhance it to visible impaired people.

To hear something wich is not "seen" by NVDA:

After starting WinBuilder, execute "TTS smart" and restart WinBuilder. This will give you some vocal information abot WinBuilder's actions.

To install NVDA, create a portable NVDA copy in <BaseDir>\lib\plugins\Accessibility\NVDA.

Execute "Install NVDA"

Excecute "Source" and define a valid Win7 source CD extraction directory.

Execute "Auto"

@Janusz

I think that you misunderstand something. multiPE version 77 has a SATA2.script included at <basedir>\Projects\multiPE\Drivers\4 Storage.
When you copy cdob's script into this directory, the driver should be added to the PE.

I tried and can run the script without errors. I cannot test the PE because I do not have the hardware.

Please understand that I prefer to spend time in the new WinBuilder 2014 project rather than in the legacy Winbuilder version 8x.

The legacy Winbuilder is dead. It has been killed when version 82 has been burn.

BTW: The new WinBuilder project based on win7 can add NVDA to the PE.

The SVN is private.

I made a 145 fix for linux OS. You can download at winbuilder.exec-se.de/Builder/winbuilder.2013.09.01.x.zip
Just unzip into your winbuilder directory and start winbuilder.jar rather than winbuilder.exe.

The current winbuilder version IMO is since a long time ready to publish.

But it is up to Nuno to give green light to publish.

#187968 WinBuilder

Posted by pscEx on 16 October 2014 - 03:52 PM in Development

Unfortunatelly, no simple help.

I stepped with debugger through old SVN version 145 (which is base for the published WinBuilder) and found, that there is really a linux / windows path separator bug.

As our SVN version is now above 300 (with many logical changes), it is not so easy to fix the version 145. I'll try nevertheless.

A supposed workaround to get a bootable ISO:

1. In your 'output\wim-boot' directory copy plugins\Internet\InternetExplorer\ieproxy.dll to Windows\System32

2. There are some 'Number' directories like '2' or '5'. Move their contents to the 'Windows' directory. Take care of correct subdirectory levels!

3. In the WinBuilder GUI execute "build wim; build iso;".

That should (I hope) create a bootable win7pe ISO.

You can use macrium reflect, which supports uefi + gpt backup and restore.

http://www.macrium.c...eflectfree.aspx

The free edition works fine, just won't do differential or incremental backups, or dissimilar hardware restore, without paying for it.

I fully agree. I use reflect (paid 'Standard' version) on a Lenovo S540 with customised partitions.

Posted by pscEx on 27 September 2014 - 01:12 PM in Win7PE

I am currently a bit handicapped to communicate, because I am working from a tablet in vacation.
Generally your assumption is wrong.
As short as I can explain now:

Let me call Winbuilder version below 84 as GUI Winbuilder, above 2012 as COMMAND LINE Winbuilder.

There are some projects using the GUI Winbuilder.
All XXX_SE belong to them. They do not use the COMMAND WINDOW Winbuilder.

The COMMAND WINDOW Winbuilder can process new projects which do not run on the GUI Winbuilder.
Currently there is only one project called Win7PE.

The advantage of the COMMAND WINDOW Winbuilder:It does not need any Microsoft propietary tools like Imagex, DISM, etc.
Therefore it can be run on Windows, Linux and MAC PCs.
It builds much faster than GUI WINDOW Winbuilder (usually with remarkable less then half the time).

If you need more informatin, please allow me to give on monday.

Let me try to make a conclusion.

(IMO minlogon is a 'lite' winlogon replacing winlogon and running at the same boot time. If I'm wrong, please explain, and forget everything I wrote here.

I have Winlogon on my system)

If there are no voodoo effects, the PID of a task shows the order when it is started.

An extract of task manager PID's, when the system is booted with AutoExNt starting notepad:

Winlogon: 292

Services: 360

Notepad: 1500

Explorer: 2560

As a result:

v77 is right with

And winlogon is the one that starts the Service Control Manager, and so, the services, and so, your AutoExnt.bat. This means that winlogon is necessarily started before AutoExnt.bat.

But also the requirement of Squid

Is there another place in the hives which could be utilized to launch a process before Explorer.exe in the normal bootup chain?

is solved with this method.

I don't understand how this service can work... The ImagePath value is supposed to be a REG_EXPAND_SZ string which specifies the executable started by the service manager. And ErrorControl is supposed to be a REG_DWORD...

Thanks that is a mistake I made by copying into the spoiler. I copied from an intermediate batch rather from the final.

File Name: AutoExNt.script
File Submitter: pscEx
File Submitted: 09 Sep 2014
File Updated: 12 Sep 2014
File Category: App scripts

This script adds the historic AutoExNt functionality to a PE1 which uses winlogon.

When booting the PE, before starting Explorer, the batch AutoExNt.bat is executed.

Here the user can add all his own tasks, which he wants to be executed before Explorer.

The script contains an (editable) example starting just a cmd window with 'Pause'.

The script can also be used to install / uninstall the AutoExNt functionality in the local OS.
It is successfull tested on XP SP3. Probably it can also be used on other windows installations.

Alright, you said that was the quick way. Myself being a programmer, I take it that that would be the "improper" way of doing it, so what would be the non-quick way of doing it? Would it be writing it to work depending on the OS type?

I avoided to say "quick and dirty way". The suggestion brings you an quick result to solve your issue with the known disavantages.

You are right, there are "universal" solutions possible, but I did not want actually to spend time to query for XP and Win7PE recognisation in all existing WinBuilder projects.

May be we can do it together.

BTW: I'm also a programmer, doing this job since the ice-age before Billy the Door ...

FIshing in the dark for LiveXP_20100908_Official_2_Recommended_v888.rar.

The "Download Latest" (from Winbuilder.net) on "main" LiveXP page brings to "page not found".

While fishing in the dark I might try MultiPe. Or al_jo's.

You can have a remake of the "original" LiveXP (before the baker's revolution) here. Then you need the older WinBuilder version 080 (Unfortunatelly the link is broken)

Or you can use the adapted LiveXP here. Then you need the actually released WinBuilder version 082 (Which has been the trigger for the baker's revolution).

Or you can have multiPE with included WinBuilder version 083. All(?) or at least most version 82 known bugs fixed.

Peter

BTW: IMO the only solution, where some support is possible, is the multiPE alternity. As you may know, it is my child, and in interesting situations, maybe I step down from the WinBuilder 2014 development to the legacy.

A new version 2014.08.15 is uploaded.

It adds the ability to compare a registry hive with a second registry hive.

The result of the compare is written into a .reg file.

Importing this .reg file into the second hive will make the second hive identical (?) to the first hive.

This function can be used to track registry changes e.g. due to a tool installation.

It is activated across the context menu of the root key in the GUI.

Command line syntax:

RegeditEx COMPARE <hive file path> <compare hive path> [<diff reg file path>]

Full command line syntax is shown by

RegeditEx /?

Depending on your OS "RegeditEx" must be replaced by e.g. java -jar "RegeditEx.jar"

#186101 iso compiles but runs windows setup, not the project

Posted by pscEx on 25 July 2014 - 07:19 AM in Support

Let's first check whether the issue is generated by the project, or by Rufus.

Burn a physical CD and boot from it. When it has the same issue, the project is the originator.

When it boots well, Rufus is the bad boy.

#186093 Modify Default PE X: Drive / RamDisk

Sometimes it helps to do a "Walk around" when the direct way cannot be gone.

But maybe I'm thinking too fundamental, or I really did not understand the root of the issue.

Maybe you can use paraglider's remapdrive, do give the PE the drive letters like in the living OS.

Maybe you have a look at the multiPE project.

#185711 Bots changing statistics

Posted by pscEx on 12 July 2014 - 07:20 PM in Site feedback

I just saw that VHD_XP_Setup - Install XP in VHD - 85 by wimb climbed nearly to the top of the downloads number.

On the second view I have some concerns: Why is a file with about 16000 views downloaded 78000 times?

IMO up to 40, sometimes up to 70 percent downloads of the views look reasonable.

Maybe some bots have been very active here.

When you look through all downloads, similar situations can be found.

I suggest, that administration adjusts the download counter. That avoids new members thinking that they download a top file, even it is not.

BTW: wimb's file IMO is in the range of top.
